I am after a cheap PCI-E card for a mate of mine - no gaming needs, just wants to have 2 DVI connectors so he can connect his monitor (via a DVI-VGA convertor) and also connect to his new LCD TV via a DVI-HDMI cable!

Any recommendations?? (ideally ATI as he already has an X300 SE or something similar so we dont have to mess about clearing out the drivers!)

Cheers...

8500gt? if not playing playing games, since it will have advanced video processor and if he is hooking up to lcd tv im guessing its good for him to have hardware hd acceleration.

You still have to re-install drivers, regardless if its still ATI. Simply uninstall>shutdown PC>remove old card>install new card> start-up>install drivers>enjoy :D

Recommend, NVIDIA 8500GT. Specs here ;)

I know the 8500GT's arent exactly pricey, but is there anything wrong with the X1050's in comparison to the existing X300 that came with the machine?? (want to be careful not to need any kind of more power from the PSU!)

Cheers,

8500GT isn't power hungry. At peak load, on a fairly high-spec machine total consumption is only 177Ws  A PC equipped with a (decent) 300W PSU should power that fine :)

in case of the 8500 GT here is what I recommend you look for!
The DDR3 version of the card!
You will ask me why, well the card is basically the 7300GT refresh as it has specs being slightly higher and thus is a slightly faster card. Check the fudzilla review, this is for the Gainward version but im pretty sure you could find an Xpertvision Sonic version for a very nice price indeed.

With me scoring 2822 on my system below with the 7300GT DDR3 it is basically the beefed up DX10 sporting version

I do recommend Gibbo takes note and orders some of these really decent cards tbh. Get some OCuK value Xpertvisons :D
