Hey guys,

Seeing as basically everything I was going to buy tomorrow has been put onto this week only (apart from the thermal paste), I've decided to look into a different cpu cooler. I've got an Antec h2o 620 sitting here but was just wondering if I'd be able to get something which is higher performance, quieter and easier to fit. I'm guessing that for my budget, I'd be looking at heat pipes and air.

Budget is around £50.

So the build:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £239.99
1 x BitFenix Ghost Silent Tower Case - Black £64.98
1 x BitFenix Spectre 230mm Fan White LED - black £14.40
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) £8.99
1 x BitFenix Spectre LED WHITE 120mm Fan £6.49
Total : £346.85 (includes shipping : £10.00).

I've got motherboard and ram already.

I am likely to be overclocking the chip.

I'd recommend the Arctic Freezer Pro 13. I've got my i5 3750k up to 4.4 ghz at a vcore set to 1.25 in the BIOS (shows as 1.272 in CPUz though....) and it stays at 70c.

It's also very reasonably priced (I think mine was £27 online) and easy to fit.

On think though is that it is huge! It's 160mm tall so make sure your case can accommodate it before you buy.

I also have the Artic Freezer Pro 13, When I overclock, it seems to get very loud.. and on idle it stays at 50c. :/

Hmmm, that's a shame: it generally seems to be pretty well received. How are the temperatures in comparison with your stock cooler? I've not noticed it being particularly loud but then quietness isn't really a priority for me!

Cheers for the recommendations. In the end I decided to buy a new hard disk as I lost my old IDE drive in the move over to Ivy Bridge.

I'll have a ponder over the phantek/alpenfohn, though I think the alpenfohn is a bit dear your temps are pretty impressive illuz!

I'm on the stock cooler at the moment as I found out about 3 o clock this morning that you can't fit a 620 into this case with a 230mm fan installed, so very much looking forward to getting rid of the whiny thing!

More new toys next month :)
