For gaming, no

you wouldnt notice anything as games only use a couple of cores. i7 is mainly for rending work, photoshop etc.

If it's for gaming, then you can't go wrong with a 2500k. You can put the rest of your budget towards a solid SLI mobo.

Run at the same clocks speed the i5 2500k is practically the same as the i7 2600k when hyperthreading isn't used.
