Recommend me a Distro

I would give Fedora a go, and then when you've had a good play with that and learnt the basics of Linux, do an arch install, the beginners guide is fantastic and will teach you masses about linux, the next step from there would be a Gentoo install if you were interested in leaning any more!

Enjoy Linux!

Give Pardus 2008 a go, very underrated and very user friendly. For example, it's the only distro I've tried that installs ok with XP on another HDD without having to mess around with BIOS settings. Wireless works no fuss in my experience.

Have a look at Sabayon, meant to be great.

Looks pretty, good hardware support, but it's MASSIVE - 12.5GB IIRC, and a lot of that is games. There may be a way to stop them being installed (it's a few months since I tried it) but it's not obvious. It also has a horrible package management system.

I'd say try Ubuntu to get you started. It's a bit too hand-holdy if you want to learn, and sudo gets you into bad habits. But it's a good introduction to the feel of Linux at least. Then I'd probably go for OpenSuse (11.0 is a big sep up from 10.3) to get a bit more practice. Then, if you're brave, go for hard-core: Debian, Gentoo, Slackware etc.
