Up until recently, I have been using the Logitech G19, the one with the LCD screen which I found very nice for monitoring resource use in-game. Since I got my flight joystick though, and have been constantly pushing and pulling the G19 in and out from under my monitor, a cold connection problem has developed with the power supply pin (yeah, this keyboard has it's own power plug). I opened it up and tried to fix it, but lacking both the expertise and the correct tools, I just made it worse. But from having a look inside the thing I have decided that Logitech have implemented some pretty poor build quality in this keyboard, so that will be the last Logitech keyboard I own.

I replaced it with with the Steelseries Apex, which I was impressed with at first, until I tried to game on it, when I realised that the thing was so big, that I was always colliding my mouse against it....it has built in palm rest as well...horrible design. The p.o.s is going right back to Amazon.de (I need/want a German layout keyboard).

Anyone got any recommendations? If so please, say why you like the specific keyboard you are recommending.

Thanks.

Id honestly give logitech a phone. Just search on this forum about their customer service.

I spilt beer over my year out of date g15v1 and subsequently lost the use of a few keys. I phoned them knowing it was out of warranty enquiring if they had a repair service to be told they would ship a brand new spanking v2 next day without having to return my old one. Might be worth asking as they could do the same.

To answer your question, I purchased a Mechanical Corsair k70 mx cherry red yesterday and whilst it has no screen or macros it is far superior to the G15. Its only 17 inches wide. Brushed aluminium surface and a nice rubberised/soft wrist rest and looks the dogs danglies. A very thick ~80mm braided cable and a lot slimmer leaving me around 23 inches space for my mouse on my 40 inch wide table. You can buy even narrower mechanical keyboards (tenkeyless) which don't include a numerical keypad or the arrow delete, page up etc bank of keys and gaming wise probably give you a far superior gaming experience. They say once you go mechanical you can never go back to membrane and I have to say I fully agree.

I would agree with Chris, from what I have heard logitech's customer service is outstanding. Not with Logitech but corsair I can also confirm their customer service is also exceptional.

Nearly a month ago a scroll wheel on a M90 mouse was playing up and after speaking to corsair they arranged a UPS pickup free of charge for the next day. After the mouse flying to the Netherlands close to a week later UPS dropped off the repaired mouse.

However instead of a repaired mouse they shipped me a brand new M95 mouse with not a penny of shipping to me.

So in terms of a keyboard give Logitech a call and they will most likely send out a new keyboard to you, or if you wish to look for a different brand defiantly check out the corsair offerings.

I'd definatley speak with logitech mate :)

AS for KB suggestions Im currently using a logitech k710+ fantastic :)
Also doesnt seerm as big as some other keyboard I've used, moved to this from a G15 v2.

Never really used the screen tbh and still have macros on this one

Cheers for the tips guys.

I already spoke with some from Logitech who informed me that my keyboard is out of warranty. I have opened the thing up now as well and sliced and spliced the power cable in attempt to override a cold connection.......also tried to reheat solder around power supply bins on PCB with solder iron about 5 times too big for job....

Reckon I might give the Corsair K70 a shot.

I got myself the Corsair Vengeance K70 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Red Switch for xmas

Absolutely love it, never had a mechanical keyboard before and although the Ducky boards had overall more recommendations, I have always loved Corsair kit and a wrist-rest was a must for me - which the Ducky boards do not have. Plus they are more expensive.

I considered the K95 too but couldn't think of a situation where the macro keys would be really useful, and I would doubt that I would remember to use them even if I did program some in! I can imagine games like Skyrim or WoW would make good use of macro keys though. I think a decent mouse that has 3 or 4 extra buttons are much more useful for FPS games, such as the Corsair M65 mouse which I got in a bundle deal with the K70.

Both the K70 and the M65 have a thick metal plate running through them so they feel very solid and heavy, which is reassuring when spending this kind of money :)

Even the girlfriend mentioned how much she liked typing on it when doing some excel spreadsheet work last night, so it appears to be an all rounder (even though I have been told red switches aren't the best for typing letters etc).

I've got a G19 as well, I have noticed the keyboard go off when I moved it occassionally, but this makes sense now I think about it.

I'm looking to get a Tenkeyless Ducky Shine III / Brown cherry Mx switches at some point, nice and small, well made :) As I use Aida64 for my G19 game panel I've ordered up and external panel for about £20 which I can have sat next to my monitor which will continue to give me the same info about temps, FPS etc from Aida64.

When I use my X52 I find I'm shoving the keyboard back too btw, they're so damn huge!

Then you will be in the same boat as me.

My G19 was fine still I started shifting it around back n forwards in between stints in jets and helis on BF4.

The result was cold connection on the power input pins.....should be easy enouhg to fix but unless u have the right tools and know-how, forget it.

If you are losing power to your G19 then get onto Logitech now before ur warranty runs out. once that LCD panel goes, you will just be left with a bog standard keyboard with a few macro keys.
