Hi guys

Looking to take this company wireless soon. Recommendations for a good cheapish AP?

New building will be 3 floors with a maximum of around 30 clients i'd imagine. So either 3 or 6 APS at a guess.

They will be used on an AD network :)

Seems like there are loads about, but i'm sure some of you guys have first hand experience with some of them.

Thanks

How vital is Reliability and functionality?
You can get a linksys one for cheap but if you need bulletproof you might want to look at it's cisco bigger brother. Both should do PoE too which is most useful for sticking APs up on cielings etc where there are no Power outlets.

Reliability will be very important as will speed.

Haven't had a look yet but I assume the Cisco APS are going to be £££ *goes off to have a look*

PoE will be handy, we don't PoE switches can get some injectors if needs be.

:)

Linksys access points

Pick one from there and go hunt the cheapest price, they're not too bad and they're baby ciscos and thus pretty dependable. Security is good too.

Looking at it the PoE models there's not much price differnce between the g and n models so i'd probably go for n if speed is important. To power them you can get a small 4/8 port PoE switch for not much money.

We've got some HP 420s where I work. Excellent, bit of kit, once they're set up you never need to worry about them again. Also their auto channel selection works well.

How large is your wireless set up likely to grow. Bare in mind each time you want to make a change you'll have to do it on every access point. This is manageable with 6 APs, however if you can see the number increasing quickly it might be worth investing in a managed system like Aruba or cisco. The main advantage of this is you'll be able to make changes centrally.

Thanks for the replies guys.

We will be based on one site only from next year (nice new building) so I can't see the AP number increasing a great deal once we are in.

I'll take a look at the HP420s as well then :)
