I'm having some trouble trying to find a half decent mechanical boost gauge kit :o EDIT - Found something that suits me.. Black? or White? :p

Can anyone here recommend me something that A. Isn't too pricey B. Isn't chavvy.

Needs to be in PSi aswell :)

I've got a TIM superdash one, simple and cheap although it's in Bar and I don't know if they do a PSI one.

Thanks chaps, some nice recommendations there :)

Gribs hit the nail on the head with the 'chavvy' explanation!

Something has confused me slightly though! Why do the fitting kits come with a tee piece aswell as boost hose?

I thought it was a simple case of threading and tapping somewhere close to the turbo so a barbed nipple could be threaded in. Then piping off from this and onto the gauge?

Most cars already have pipework that is used to measure boost (for ECU & ignition purposes, or OEM gauges) so you can just put a T piece in that line and read boost pressure off that....

Ideally you want two gauges, one before the throttle body/butterfly valve, and one after for manifold pressure (the important one!!)

I think Mocal do a great one in plain black/white and reads up to 30psi.

Highly recommended as I have used these and can not fault them one bit - plus they look subtle and slick

Mocal are good.

Prosport/Motormeter are also good... but expensive. They sweep the dial face and beep at you when powered on so are worth it IMO :p

Autometer are ok. Had no problems with my Autometer boost gauge. Cheap and cheerful.

Ahh, I thought that might be the case. My car doesn't have anything like that :)

Prepare to laugh, but I have no throttle body or butterfly valve.. this gauge is going onto my Peugeot 306 HDi so I can up the boost...

So It should be a pretty simple fitting, tap into the intercooler pipework I built.. feed back into car and bobs your uncle :D

Only certain Autometer gauges are cheap and cheerful, i.e. the cheap ones :p You can still spend 70 quid on just a 'basic' full sweep CF boost gauge from them if you want to :D

I always liked the Cobalt series (and the carbon) but wasn't a fan of the blue backlighting.

Something like the 'Elite' series would be the one to look for if you wanted something with a high/low warning light/buzzer and variable backlight intensity and colour, along with peak recall for after-run checks :)

You can view the full range here:

Just scroll left and right through the numerous options...

If it had loads of blue leds on it that'd make it look pretty chavy imo.

Agree on Autometer though.
True, but I've never seen a gauge covered with LED lights :p

I am saving up for a set of Defi BFs though, maybe these would be classed as chavvy...

I am a scall at heart anyway I don't care :D

My bad :o I presumed we were talking about 'Autogauge'.

Yeah, Autometer look nice. I was looking at them a while back. I like my Innovate G3 AFR gauge. I'll be getting an Innovate boost gauge to match in the near future.

I remember the days of modding my 306. Fond memories.
Can't remember what gauge I used, Autometer rings a bell though.

I'm trying not to go 'too far' with the modding.. Car is 90BHP Standard, I bought a map file for the ECU and Flashed it.. making it about 120-125bhp, I then decided I wanted a bit of a project and stuck an intercooler on the front SEE HERE I did this with the intention of remapping it again to get around 150bhp with 250 ft/lb of torque, this idea eventualy fizzled away as I couldn't be bother to spend £300 on a new uprated clutch.

Eventualy I got interested again, drove down to the OcUK RR Day at Tewksbury and had the car on the rollers. It gave out 131.5bhp with 200.5 ft/lb I've since learnt that I should have upped the boost once I'd intercooled it as the 120-125bhp map was produced with this in mind!! I ofcourse.. have no boost gauge so don't want to start adjusting the actuator as it will be guesswork.

I'm currently toying with the idea though.. of getting the 150bhp map for £60, fitting a standard LUK Clutch which is £75 and then getting my map man to adjust the torque to a point where it won't slip the clutch.. this is all going to give me less MPG but its a fun car :D

I've found THIS Mocal gauge at Demon Tweeks which looks alright for the price... Nice and subtle.

Just need to find some hose and a nipple now :)

You'd be mad not to for 60 notes. Fk the clutch, just don't go 'WOT' @ 1200 RPM lol.
Replace it when it wears out, not in advance.
