Hi all

Please can I ask for support in recommending a headset that has a built in mic and a closed cup design that will work on PC and consoles.

Crucially it must have a velour headband and velour ear cups. Both headband and ear cups should also be replaceable.

I'm struggling to find anything suitable but I'm sure OCUK will have the answer! :)

Happy to spend £150-£170 ish.

I would greatly appreciate your advice.

You can always change the earpads to ones you like if you find a headset that ticks the other boxes.

I'm currently thinking about a set of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro and a modmic.

I have a Asus Xonar U3 kicking about to help things along but that kind of set up probably needs something a bit better.

Quick question does anyone know if the DT770 ear cups are the same size and shape as the Hyper X cloud and QPAD qh90 headsets?

They look very similar in design.

So I have ordered a set of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro Special Editions.

Will add a modmic or equivalent at the end of the month.

Normally this is where I would say thanks to all for the advice etc, but I cant.

Been a bit of a lonely thread!

Beyer's cups and pads are bigger.
Those copies made by Takstar have smaller oval cup/pads.

OK thanks for confirming. I have a set of QH90's where the leatherette is falling apart on the pads and headband. Was thinking I might be able to use Beyerdynamic replacement velour pads but as you have said, they wouldn't fit.

The pads on the DT 770's are indeed very comfortable. Very nice headphones to wear. I'm only running them through a Xonar U3 but it drives them quite well once you change a key impedance setting buried in the GUI of the soundcard interface. It's a shame that you can't set the default impedance when you use the U3 on non Windows devices as it reverts back to 32ohm which makes it underpowered for the 770s on consoles. Its not terribly bad - but its not great either.

I splurged on a modmic too - great bit of kit so far - good quality mic and neat fitting. Feels like I will get a lot of use out of this combination and with the headphones having replaceable pads and headband it will be easy enough to use spares once they are worn out.
