Recommend me a helicopter game.

I'm not looking for anything like Commanche or BF2 but a serious helicopter simulator. From what I seen FS is only about planes but I'm sure I've seen some people posting helicopter pics in screenshot folder so wondering if there's a game out there for me.

Thanks in advance.

If you can't sort out FS9 for helo's then for an alternative try X-Plane

with fs2005 there is a helicopter included if I remember correctly, and a very good one at that.

Yes you can fly heli's in FS2004, but the best ones for realism you have to pay for.

However, there are thousands of free downloads to be had on Avsim.com and simviation.com if you don't want to pay. :)

There really needs to be a commanche5, one that is actually hard to play like Commanche3 rather than 4 which was too arcadey.

I think LOMAC has a Hokum made for it by 3rd party.

I loved Silkworm on my old Amiga, don't know if you can get it for the PC though..

Warning! it might be a little too arcadey for some ;)

God I loved Comanche 3, having your wingman miles away with long ranged missiles (forget what they are called, Tomahawks?) and just popping out spotting and designating then dropping back behind hills was excellent fun, especially networked :D

The Hokum add-on for LomAC is being written by the original LomAC team, and will probably be released as a pay-for-download patch/add-on.

For combat helicopter sims, you could look at:

Jane's AH-64 Longbow
Gunship
Enemy Engaged : Apache Havoc
Enemy Engaged : Comanche Hokum

The enemy engaged series can be installed on top of each other allowing you to fly the helicopters and campaigns in Apache Havoc using the improved graphics / flight model of Comanche Hokum. This series has a fairly strong following and a wide range of mods / campaigns and graphics tweaks are available. The series also has a quite good online multiplayer option, allowing you to fly online co-op campaign missions.

Gunship also has a lot of third-party mods available.

For civilian heli sims maybe the SAR series might be of interest, the latest version is 4, if I recall correctly. ALso there is Vietnam Medevac.

I found a link to an open source heli sim under the SAR name : http://wolfpack.twu.net/SearchAndRescue/

Hellfires, you fired a salvo of them at once, cycle targets like mad and enjoy the spectacle of your 100% accurate one man artillery barrage. :D

The stock helicopter modelling in FS2004 is rather quirky to say the least, apparently you can fly them fairly well if you practise practise practise, but you can jump in other Helo sims and fly more accurately a lot quicker than you can in FS2004. Some of the pay for add-on Helicopters like Aerosofts SH-60 Seahawk fly a lot better though.

As has been mentioned, Enemy Engaged : Apache Havoc
and Enemy Engaged : Comanche Hokum are very good and have lots of mods out for them now, haven't played them in a while, but I'll pop over to SimHQ after this post to gen up on the latest with this one, was excellent fun played online years ago.

LB2 was good, but apparently worked best with 3DFX cards, maybe there's a mod for today's graphic cards for it now? the Enemy Engaged series was my favourite in recent times though.

Going back further in years, DI's Hind and the even earlier Apache were classic's, Hind was challenging to fly but not nearly impossible as in FS2004, fun missions too, you had ground troops to pick up and deploy, and search and rescue missions as well as all the usual attack missions. The moving ground troops added another dimension back then, Hind later came out in 3DFX with improved graphics.
