Hello,

I'm after a Lappytop that is on the same scale as the Acer ONE and EEEPC (not the 800x screen version though!) but something with a little more battery life so am wondering if someone can recommend one?

My budget will be around £250 and intend to buy one next month~.

It will be used for browsing the net when away from home and also watching movies on via CF card storage or the SSD.

I don't mind if it runs XP or Linux though Linux may be better for efficiency!

Battery life is the key thing though, the majority seem to pack around 3 hours of use, I need something that's 5hrs+ ideally!

Thanks!

Edit*

Actually even if it's not the same size as a ONE I don't mind, as long as it's slim and fairly small that's all that matters!

Well i'd recommend the Asus EEEPC 901 with battery life of up to 8 hours!!!
It comes with XP installed
12GB SSD
1024MB DDR2
Intel Atom @ 1.6GHz
8.9" TFT - 1024x600 WSVGA

Are you not interested in the Samsung NC10? At the moment they can be had for £300 but if you're buying next month they might drop in the January sales or something.

Battery life can reach 8 hours and someone on these forums has managed to get 9 hours out of one. Here is the OCUK link so you can check out the specs.

Bigger HD, bigger screen, etc.

If you do go for the EeePC, I know that Raikiri on here bought the extended battery and I think it almost doubled the battery length :) Wasn't that expensive either.

Extended battery over the already 8hr~ life ?

Whoah!

Also I am interested in the Nc10 but they all seem equally matched for my usage since it's for web surfing and movie watching on the go mainly. The screen res between them is also the same so the only thing I'd be looking at is battery life and if the EEE extended battery gives double figure life between charges then I'd be interested in learning more!

I've been reading Slashdot today and an article is saying that early 2009 we have touchscreen twistable Netbooks coming! There will be an EEe too!

Hmmm!

Not quite in the EEPC class but I have a Toshiba 13" laptop and its the best lappy I have ever owned. Small light and easy to move around!!

How long does the battery last dude?

In short...

...I started new job this week little realising that a new Dell Inspiron 1525 was waiting at my desk to be unboxed :D – it’s quite nice with 3GB ram, core2duo and vista hp. Configured it with my software and customisations all nicely, removed the Dell crap.

Mid week I ask about a laptop I found lying under my desk at work, they say it is broken and my manager has tried everything to fix it. It’s a Toshiba A200-1HU with 2GB ddr2, centrinoduo 1.8ghz and vista hp so I ask to have a look at it and take it home to have a play.

Looks like the primary and secondary hd (salvaged from a USB caddy) were both dead (clicking noises) so I’m due to try another hd shortly after having some success with one of my own drives.

I’ll stick Windows 7 beta on there to compare bug differences between Vista to see how it fares out and then sell the laptop and buy the netbook I’ve been wanting :D

So all in all I’ve gotten a nice shiny new lappy for use at work that I can take home as well and got a 2nd free laptop that looks brand new and is still worth a several hundred £ re-conditioned! It's not as slim as the Dell but looks the part.

Who’s very happy?

I am!

If it wasn't for the movie and storage caveat I'd recommend the DataWind Pocket Surfer, a friend of mine's got one, it gets all my gadget glands going, very fast surfing with no monthlies.
Slips in an inside pocket.

EEEPC is the perfect size I'd say, anything smaller would be too small! screen res ideally 1024 wide at least :)
