Need something with a 1080p display, i5, preferably SSD but I can upgrade, don't mind if its old. Can I get something with this spec for under £300?

tbh i5 and ssd/1080p display etc - brand new probably going to set you about £500ish.... (if you look for the right deals, wait for discount etc)
something like if5 7200u, 8gb ram, 940m nvidia etc... 500 ish... if you dont want a dedicated gfx card, maybe you can save money here...
however what are you going to do with it? no gaming, then maybe look at some chromebooks or tablet maybe if its just for browsing might end up cheaper?
failing that about £300 second hand should get you something decent with the spec you required, doubt you can get anything new for 300...
if you can wait maybe wait for 1050 or 1060 models to fall in price and you can get a nice little graphics card in there potentially....
