Okay the innevitable discovery of my head being a XXL came as no suprise, but it begs a question, with an expected budget of up to £500 for a helmet what would you good folks recommend?

I'd prefer best protection possible but have no preference on style at the moment, open to all sugestions...

The one that fits.

Go to a store, try them all on. Find which ones fit, choose the one that fits the best and feels the nicest. Pick your favourite colour.

With your budget you should have no problems.

Heads usually fit one helmet make better than another. I would go and try a few TBH as its the most important thing you'll buy.

Mine is an 'Arai head' so for me it would be an RX7 GP ;)

Shoei XR1100 I have a giant head and it's the only one that fits, about £300 add £50 for a spare tinted visor or see if they have something other than a bog standard colour, if you really want to spend £500.

I tried the Carsbergs and a few others but my chin stuck out the bottom, the Shoei is truly massive, the old XR800 used to be called 'the bucket' because they sold them to all the big rasta's with dreads

Replacing mine soon. I'd also consider ventilation too. Nothing worse than a shocking de-mist on cold/wet days.

I have the XR1100 and it's ideal for my big swede:D The fit is the most important part and I found that AGV's and Shark helmets were too small.
As mentioned, try on as many as possible before buying.

Agree with everyone who has said to try lots on. You will then get the best fit lid for your head. Personally i have an Arai Viper GT. Excellent lid and really comfortable.

The shell type that fits, then the most expensive version in that range you can afford. Now i dont mean paint jobs i mean version.
Your choice of helmet involves far more than how well it fits and its sharp rating.

Everyone has their own preference. From what I've been told when trying on helmets before, you want as many points of contact with your head as possible if that makes sense. Obviously not so that its overly tight but that you can feel it all the way around your head.

My helmet of choice - Shark Evoline 2 White, bought it from hein gericke for ~£275

Once again... Good luck :)

You'll probably find that one make of lid will fit you better than others. I've got a Shoei XR1000 myself, found the Arai's a bit tight round the top of my head.

Love the pinlock on the Shoei's aswell, never need to worry about misting again.
