I'm after a nice distro to use.

Ubuntu is out of the question, since v8.04 there is a problem with PAM and my machine, i can't figure it out and i'm getting nowhere on the Ubuntu forums.

So i'm looking for something

1. As easy as Ubuntu to install/use.
2. Preferbally with less pre-installed stuff, i like to choose what i want on my system.

I've used Arch Linux before, i *might* have another bash at it tonight, the only off putting thing is the amount of 'tinkering' i've done it once before i'm not 100% sure i want to go through it all again.

I'm getting on ok with Fedora so far. There is no nonsense with passwords and PAM that i had with Ubuntu.

I was a bit disheartened when the update manager wouldn't work, but this was a known issue and a quick 'yam update' in the terminal has ironed out that problem.

I'm going to stick with it for a few months and then i'll have a look into 13.

Thankyou for the suggestions everyone.

Been a few days at least now.

Fedora seems to work for me, i see version 13 is out now but i might wait a while for that. I have lost the bootup splash screen since installing the nvidia drivers but i'm sure theres a workaround for that somewhere.

:o:p

I'm glad Fedora is working out for you OP. I loaded F13 into VirtualBox t'other day and I was very impressed. I loved F8 and F10 but moved onto pastures new after that (Mint, mostly). I'm loving Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 13 though. Change, change, change. Don't you just love software freedom? :D

Still using it, does everything i need it to do, even more so now i have found and added the RPM Fusion repos.

Even playing games on here now, Nexuiz is quite decent. I usually play BF2 and CoD so it makes a refreshing change to just run around shooting everything that moves.
