Recommend me a new game please.

Great ideas guys. I'm quite taken by the look of this elite dangerous

It's especially good in VR.

I recommend using a Hotas (if you have one from your FSX days), because it benefits from being able to map a lot of controls to the stick and throttle.

Quite a steep learning curve, which is a bit daunting at first, but makes it a bit more satisfying long term. It does turn into a bit of a grind once you get onto the big ships, and in open play you may meet some pvp griefers, but that's easily avoided by joining a pve group like mobius.

If you've got plenty of time to play through a massive grindfest, then Elite Dangerous would be the game for you. I grew fed up of just how much time would be needed just to be able to get ranks to buy the better ships for the factions, and I had a Python which used to be a great ship, but they nerfed these and now it just sucks. The last time I played was over six months ago so maybe someone can say that they've fixed the Python, but I wouldn't go back to play again unless they really made decent changes to it because it became too weak for what it was. Exploring in the game is cool for a bit, but eventually you realise just how pointless it actually is. Combat is fun again, but if you don't have good upgrades to your ship, which take a while to get, then you're pretty much a sitting duck.

Anyway, my suggestions would be Company of Heroes (the first is really cheap on Steam and an amazing RTS) based around you saying you enjoyed C&C, and Fallout 3 due to Skyrim. I'd also maybe mention the Anno series of games, as they're city-builder-esque with a lot of trade elements. Plus, even if you play Anno 1404 which was released in 2009, it still looks absolutely gorgeous! It's also £7.99 on Steam :)

The Metro Series? Rather immersive first person games

S.O.M.A is fantastic, don't let the horror aspect put you off the story is fantastic

Talking of story, Spec ops the line is still one of the best for story, a fairly generic 3rd person shooter but the story it tells and choices system actually has impact. It's short too, in a good way

Nice, never heard of that one - you can get it for £3. I stopped looking at the review because I didnt want too many spoilers

Oh jesus, is that what people are recommending to you?

Unless you have a VR setup, there is a good chance you're going to be let down by Elite Dangerous massively. It is a shallow game built for people who dont mind wasting a lot of time on very 'basic' mechanics.

Elite Dangerous is a game you play if you're looking for a simulation title to waste time in, not for an engaging 'fresh' experience.

based on a lot of your favourites being mine too, i'd second the recommendation for Diablo 3.

If it grabs your attention, it is hundreds of hours of play.
