Cannot get 5G out in the sticks where my folks are, 4G seems like it would be viable, either straight up or with an extra aerial fitted, get a reasonable signal on my phone at least. The purpose of the thread is for recommendations on the better suppliers of 4G broadband in terms of the ongoing monthly cost, after any sweetheart initial deals and the like. Are there any that stick out as obvious contenders? Hopefully you guys can suggest the ones to avoid like the plague, and those who are decent. Would then obviously check out what the actual signal is like with each where my folks are. Has to be an unlimited package for laziness in keeping track of usage. Would appreciate any comments. Their current ADSL "broadband" is maximum 1mbit, so is as excruciating as you can imagine.

Depends really which networks have the best signal quality in their area. For me EE has had the best latency and bandwidth throughout the day - some other networks have significantly reduced quality even with a good signal at peak times.

Signal will be checked of course, I get acceptable signal for streaming on the O2 network where they are. It doesn't have to be earth shatteringly fast, even being able to watch youtube at 1080p would be nice, their current broadband is absolutely diabolical.

Was hoping for some testimonials on the real world cost after any short term deals. I've had a look at some sites and the cost seems reasonable, but I can never tell if these advertised prices are just to get you in the door, and they go up later and start charging extras. Annual increase excepted though as everyone gets that as we know.

Once you have found which network offers broadly the best signal it might be worth looking at the MVNO's who operate on that network for example Smarty on Three or Talk Mobile on Vodafone.

Often, the MVNO's have considerably cheaper unlimited data tariffs than the main network for some reason. Smarty and Talk mobile both offer unlimited data tariffs for £16 per month on a 30 day rolling contract.

Thanks for that, that's the kind of info I was after.

Just be sure to read the small print. All you can eat data on mobile often comes with a data cap, if you exceed it once it's not normally an issue, multiple overtures can result in being cut off. Not the end of the world as you rebuy the same plan but worth checking on.

Most of them are fairly generous these days into the 100s of GB so not a problem unless you are guzzling down the bandwidth (though not sure with some of the smaller MVNOs, etc.). Some like EE if you are hammering it will give you the option of moving to a business connection, product with a specific data allowance or cancelling.

I have been on Smarty 4G for years now only £18 and a few pennies p/m
No limit on DL,obviously ymmv depending on nearness to mast.I can `sometimes` get 100meg down and 30 up but am at least 6 miles from mast
Mostly i am around 70-80 down
