Im hoping you can help me decide on a RAM kit for my build. Im upgrading from an i5 4560 ddr3 build. This is my first rebuild since building that pc, might be useful context that i dont like to rebuild frequently. Use case is gaming, in particular VR

Ive decided on

Ryzen 5600x
B550 gaming edge wifi ATX

I need a new PSU as im going to keep the old components for my son and its a 600W bronze and i want something a little better.

Im hoping to pick up either a 3060ti, 3070 or 3070ti. I want somethimg fully modular or at least semi. Also gold rated

Im thinking maybe 750w in case i grab a 3070ti what donyou think and what would you recommend

Ideally im spending less than 70 pound but would stretch to 90-100 if something quality was deemed worthy by the hive mind

Thanks in advance

Spending the extra is worth it as the PSU is the driver and responsible for those components. A good one will outlast everything else, performance wise at least. So it's a worthy investment.

Seasonic Focus line is solid. Though for £70 you'll be making a sacrifice somewhere, but there are some PSUs in that ball park that tick your boxes.

For £ 70 inc VAT you’re only going to get something bronze rated, unless you buy a cheaper brand then you might get gold I’m thinking 750W ones here.

The Corsair RM series are popular but if you really want to spend only £ 70 then one option would be the PSU I’ve got (in sig). Its nothing special and there are others in the same price range but it’s 750W semi modular with 3x PCIe connectors and a 5 year warranty.

You can register for the warranty online. There’s a site selling these for £ 70 inc VAT with free delivery.

Thanks chaps. I had a look at the corsair rm and skme reviews. Any thoughts on the corsair rm750x? Sounds good build quality and will last. 95 quid which i could stretch to

Corsair ones are popular, that's all i know. But 10yr warranty is always good. The thing with PSUs, many come from the same places and just have different labels on them. While some parts are changed, or some designs are, it's hard to tell. I imagine something like Igors Lab has done strip downs to find key differences, but PSUs sadly are bottom of the pile for people's interest.

I highly doubt you'll be disappointed if you're happy with the price and wattage.

According to the EVGA power meter your system with a 3070 uses 453 watts and they recommend a 550W PSU. Bump that up to a 3080 and it uses 750W and they recommend a 750W PSU.

However they tend to recommend a 750W PSU for every system with a 3080 or 3090 and I’ve yet to see them recommend anything higher.
