Hi,

Currently have a Belkin N1 Mimo router which is giving me a headache with my xbox so I want to get a new one so I don't continue to get kicked from games. Main problem is a Moderate NAT, but I cannot resolve this.

Anyone got a router (pref N-range) that would work with 360 no problems?

Ta.

Getting kicked from games is nothing to do with a router, it's probably from being a noob on the headset like everyone else on xbox.

How ever if you mean disconnecting from xbox live a lot then it could be low signal?
What password do you have set up; WEP, WPA, None?
Did you configure it yourself?

err I doubt it's because of me being a noob since I rarely play with people other than friends...

I know I have an incompatible router with moderate NAT, which gives me trouble signing in and matchmaking.

Any router suggestions?

Ok,

What do you mean a moderate NAT incompatability.
How long has this problem been going on,
Can you explain abit more.
How far away is the router
What security are you using
How many people are using your internet
How often does it disconnect.

When I matchmake in Halo 3 I get a message about moderate nat slowing the matchmaking process. I've always had this problem with my XBOX as well as my Wii which has known incompatability issues. I'm 1 floor down from the router, use a powerline connection that's fine with my PC if I hook it up that way. I'm using WEP security and it's just me on the network. I get disconnected a lot, atleast once every few hours.

Im not sure of the exact problem but NAT is the built in router firewall, change your WEP key this may not help much but it will keep you safer as someone may have discovered it.

If you forward the right ports, any router should be perfectly fine. Some (and your Belkin should do it) do uPnP, making the port forwarding automatic.

WEP's utterly useless for wireless security, but it's most likely not causing your problem.

I've tried this aswell as enable upnp. My xbox just really doesn't like the router, even when I forward all the ports recommended on XBOX.com

I need the router to be N-series because of the poor signal in our house for the PC. I've seen these two;

Netgear WNB2100 Wireless N Router

Linksys WRT160N Ultra N Router

Anyway to find out if there are compatability issues before i purchase?

AndrewD. I have had the same problem with a Belkin N1 router. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and gave it back eventually. I am now still running on my old Belkin G Plus MIMO router. Having done a lot of searching (not a subject with a lot of straight answers) I have come to the conclusion that theres nobody who can give a specific answer. All comments seem personal views. I am currently running two xbox360's at the same time(two accounts). Unfortunately I can only get one with open NAT at any one time so I decided that a new router could be the solution. So theres good news and bad news. The good news is that you could easily run 1 xbox360 with open NAT and no game lag using the same as my old router. Now heres the bad news. If like me you are looking for the best you can get you will have to fork out around £180 quid for a Dlink DIR 855(as advertised on Overclockers). This router is the mother of them all but with a hefty price to go with it. I'm gonna wait to see if the price comes down but when it does I'll be first in the queue to get one. As a tip, you need to configure your DMZ if you have that option, as the ports, for the xbox to work best, need to be open, but dont open ports manually at the same time as they will conflict. It seems a lot of people are doing both and it only works if you use one or the other. Hope this helps.

^Thank you for the reply!

I got my hands on a refurbed Netgear G+ Mimo for £30 that is listed as compatible on Mircosofts website.

It is true a lot of it is personal experience which makes this hunting very difficult. I'll see how this router holds up. If the signal is too bad then I may just make another ethernet connection via the powerline as I do with the XBOX.

It's a shame really because when I plugged the XBOX directly into the modem, the thing worked like a dream, so I know it's because of this router.

Thanks for the help!
