Hi guys, I need to find an adsl router for use with BT broadband which will allow me to network 2 PC's via Lan cables, and will also me to use wireless to connect to my laptop. I also need to be able to block neigbours from connecting to my network via wireless access, which they are currently able to do. I'm looking at this one if it will do the job and would be easy to setup. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-007-TP

Your requirements are accomodated by the vast majority of wireless routers. Networking 2 PC's and running wireless are in 100% of 4 port+ wireless routers, the ability to block IPs is almost always available.

And you can also use WPA to block your network from others.

Can you not do any of this now? I don't understand how you've got a wireless router which doesn't let you do both of the above: you say you've got wireless which they can access, what router is it?

It's a MicraDigital 802.11g ADSL Modem with Wireless Router purchaced from the purple shirts. It's got a wep key or something on a label on the bottom of it, which I took to be a code which needed to be entered on a pc which was attempting to connect via wireless but apparently it's not so.

It has 4 lan ports which I'm using to network my 2 PC's, but today I noticed another PC was shown as attached to the network, this must have been someone connecting via wireless. I've suspected for a week or two that someone may be using wireless access to use my internet connection.

I've put a stop to it now by opening the router up and cutting the wire going to the aerial close to the circuit board.

Surely it would've been a lot easier if you just opened the router page and enabled the wireless security there? Did the router come with a manual?

Shame we never got to you before you cut it. There will be a web interface, to access it you need to enter an IP into a browser. If you don't know it all you have to do is open cmd promt and type ipconfig /all. A load of text will appear and the IP you need is next to the text 'default gateway'. Putting that IP number into your browser takes you to a page that lets you change the settings on your router.

Things like disabling wifi, or changing the security type and password.
