Im looking for a Surround sound setup, im looking to spend £400 but that can be bumped up to around £500 if its worth it. They will be used mainly with my PC for watching Tele and Movies, as well as some Music.

I really dont know what or where i should be looking 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 really doesn't mean to much to me.

Thanks

Your looking at a 5.0 setup with bookshelf speakers, all second hand I'd say. Search the bay for "denon av" to bring up a selection of Denon AV amplifiers, they make some models highly suited to this budget :) . Then I'd probably search "mission" under Consumer electronics to find a selection of mission speakers. Many from the 700 series are decent and go for suitable prices (around £50 a pair often). You'll naturally need 2 pairs (cheaper ones fine for rears) and also a centre (may be difficult to find, perhaps buy another pair and do 6.0 if the amp supports it) :) . You may add a sub to give 5.1/6.1 later, but at the moment your budget will not cover a decent one. The bookshelfs should give enough bass for bedrooms anyhow :)

Pleased with these new Bose COMPANION 5 multimedia speaker system for my PC. Had a 5.1 surround system, but for a small office/bedroom I find this BOSE speaker system great and easy to setup. Doesn't try to beat a proper 5.1 speaker system, just a different alternative

get the z5500.

Those bose speakers in that image look retro and ugly, dont bose actually make lower quality speakers now?

infact those speakers on that image look like wierd microphones they have in airports or something.

Klipsch Pro Media 5.1 might be best though, although the amps in those seem to die vvvvv quickly :(

Are you kidding?

The Bose Companion 5 look awesome in the flesh and have to be heard to be believed.

Got the Z5500s myself, for about £200, they're a very impressive set of PC speakers, although they may well be too much for a bedroom or small office.

You sound like you've got a decent budget - go for a proper AV system as opposed to a PC speaker setup. Logitech are hardly the pinnacle of hi-fi, and Bose are far too expensive for what you get (and the typical Bose sound has way too much emphasis on bass rather than hi-fidelity...)
