Hey,

Can anyone recommend me a good recipe for my steak tommorow? never really cooked one but figured id give it a go just wondered how i could make it awesome

ME id just pan fry it to your preference then stick a very generous dollop of garlic butter on top and let it melt right in.

oh god its 9am and i want a steak

I usually just have steak on its own, but sometimes I do like steak au poivre. There's two versions, both nice.
One with red wine http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/meat/steak/classic-steak-au-poivre.html
One with brandy and cream http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Steak-au-Poivre-233549 - (light the cognac in the pan for cool flames :D )

If you just want a sauce to go with it, you can get chimichurri in jars which is nice and easy, or shallot + red wine (i make loads of this and freeze it in an ice cube tray) http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2514/shallot-and-red-wine-sauce

My favourite:

Fillet steak in a blue cheese and pepper sauce with asparagus.

Boiling water in a pot for the asparagus.

Put your oven on to something like 70 degrees. This is just to keep the steak warm once you're done frying it, pop your serving plates in the oven as well.

Fry the fillets in butter to your preference then wrap them in foil and put them in the oven to keep their heat.

Put the asparagus in the boiling pot now.

Next add a bit more butter to the pan and use a plastic spatula and get all browned fat that's stuck to the pan into the liquid butter. Now drop the heat a bit and add double cream and crumbled up Stilton. Once the Stilton is melted add pepper to test, you can add a lot as it has to fight the Stilton for flavour. Once you are happy with the sauce take it off the heat. Drain the asparagus and serve the steak covered in the sauce and the asparagus with a knob of butter and but of pepper on top.

That does sound quite brilliant haha might have to try that one day.

I decided to cook it like Heston anyhow fry in a extremely hot pan flipping every 15-30 seconds until how i like. he may of said to lower the heat after the initial searing but from memory he didn't haha and then I left on the side for 5 minutes to lock in the moister ( there was a whole section/experiment on the show to show the important of this step ) and fried up some onions
