For an itch to play some tower defence like game.

Not into the depth of Civ, just something to build up a defence and wave after wave of attack comes, with levels may be?

Sounds like a game for the phone rather than Steam (will be playing on either Steam Deck or Mac M4).

Any of these platforms will be fine.

If you're not against an Epic account, the android Epic Launcher currently has Bloons TD6 and Dungeon of the Endless for free. Both good games IMHO, though not played either on Android. Dungeon of the Endless is not without some bugs however and is less of your traditional tower defence.

Other than that, I like Dungeon Defenders (the original one), Plants Vs Zombies (again the original) and the kingdom rush games which I got for my phone.
As above, the original Plants vs Zombies is excellent.

Bloons TD6 is quite good. It's single player and online co-op.
I've not managed to play it co-op much recently, keeps desyncing annoyingly as I used to be able to. Though looking online it seems to be a feature unfortunately.

Diplomacy is not an option, or Stronghold definitive edition, bit more interesting than tower defence because you build castles, also if you like Zombies, Infection Free Zone is kind of tower defence and you can choose anywhere in a realistic world map to set your base

Rift breaker is a great game but don't bother trying it on the deck. I loaded up save with everything on the lowest settings and was getting about 10 fpm that's 10 frames per minute.

I briefly tried orcs must die as well but can't remember why that wasn't working very well.

There's only one answer here... The best TD game of all time by a long long way is Bloons TD6. No other comes close.

It might look like a kids game, but it has the deepest gameplay mechanics around, the most balanced towers, the best synergies. It's outstanding.

I don't play it anymore, but I'd put in 1,700 hours by the time I stopped. Not bad for the £0.69 I paid for it.

What platform did you play it on?

Bah, its £11.99 on Steam (£5 on CD Keys) at the moment, 69p would have been a no brainer!

Steam. It does go down in the sales, but I've never seen it go as low as I paid unfortunately. I wouldn't hesitate at £11.99 though. If you get into it, you'll sink a lot of time on it.

Artificial Extinction
Particle Fleet: Emergence
Anomaly: Warzone Earth
