Recommend me an Air Cooler

Hi folks!

Summer is coming! I suspect a lot of you have air coolers and in the typical OCUK member fashion many of you have probably spent hours reseaching and reading reviews.

So dear members.. Recommend me an air cooler (before they all sell out!) for a large bedroom 30sm please.

I've had a little wap-12ea26 that I've used for the last 3 or so summers and it's been a lifesaver for my 20 sq. m room. Cost a little under £300 I think.

It's a bit noisy, but does the trick and I have my noise cancelling headphones on most of the time it's on, which dulls the noise to the point that it doesn't bother me (I usually have a fan on all rear round anyway).

It's 9k BTU, so and equivalent new model 9k BTU one would probably be good.

Thank you for that mate. My room is 31 sm and it is for me and my wife especially overnight when we are trying to sleep so not sure this will be sufficiant.

We just bought this one: https://www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/airflex15w/electriq-airflex15w. No WiFi/app is a bit cheaper, and less BTU models are cheaper still.

Do you have to have the pipe running out to a window? Does it fit all windows? How long is the pipe? My window is at least 1.5-2 meters away from where the bottom of the machine would be.

Yeah, I never ran it when asleep, but usually in the evening hours before bed to fill the room with cool air. I'd then shut it off before going to sleep and make sure the doors and windows were closed, even if the house/brickwork itself was hot, the fresh batch of cool air usually means I get a decent nights sleep.

Without an externally located unit I doubt any of them would be suitable while you sleep, but I could be wrong.

Looking at the figures in Russinating's link, you probably need closer to 12k btu for 30 sq m. though

Do you have to have a pipe running out the window for yours?

Air coolers don’t work well in the UK as they rely on evaporating water which works well in low humidity countries.

That was going to be my back up plan. Air con units for a very large bedroom seem to be expensive.

I am also concerned that my closest open window is high up and the hose may not be long enough/a faff to set up.
