i need to buy an amp for my sound system and was wondering what to go for. current setup is 2 b&w 602.5 for front speakers and 2 b&w 601s for rears. going to buy a LCR60 S3 for a centre just need a good amp for it.

may i suggest a copy of what hi-fi.... I dont mean that sarcastically either :)

Look at the Denon range - I dont see why those speakers wouldnt work well even though I havent heard them myself

The initial setup of my £300 Denon 1906 was a little bit of a pain, but it works wonderfully and even has 3 componant inputs and one monitor output for hidef goodness.

Alternatively, buy a second hand Denon 3803 for £300. Component upscaling goodness and a meaty amp and huge feature set to boot.

may I suggest a pair of ears, and carry them very carefully to your local dealer, listen to what he has to say, and what amps he has on demo.

YOUR ears know more about Hi-Fi than what garbage can write in a year !

A reputable dealer will general sell only what works well and does what it says on the box.

Sarcasm...me never ;)

Can I suggest that if you're going to listen to music, that you stick with just stereo and get a really good stereo only amp. It WILL sound better.

Rite...

your cabs are lurvly... so you need an amp to use them... I personally reccomend sticking with stereo operation as you'd eventually loose fasing ... either killing your amp or giving you one hell of a headache...

I myself use NAD amplifiers... not sure on the power ratings of the B&W's... to obtain maximum performance if any speaker you usually aim for an amp with double the rated power of the speakers.... This allows for peaks or kicks n bass heavy music without suffering distorsion...

If you have the budget you may aswell go for NAD... just overall warmth and slew rate is tight...

IF OP was just wanting stereo then he wouldnt be talking about 5 speakers now would he?

Book a session in a couple of stores and beforehand pick up some av mags and listen to a few of the recommendations - preferably with the speakers you already have

 Are you insinuating that running stereo through a multichannel amp with make the amp go bang?
