Recommend me an ASDSL isp please! (details within)

I have sky connect 8mb and it's only 5 quid/month with the tv package but P2P is much faster than when I was with BT. Only 40gb a month though...but in a few months I'll be upgraded to Sky broadband which is 16mbit and unlimited monthly traffic.

The speed you get is all dependent on the distance. No one can tell you what you will get.

To be honest, i dont know why i keep asking that. I'm still on 512k so anything above that is fine by me!

The activation fee is what you need to pay for a new ADSL BB connection. It is free to migrate in from any BT IPS or data stream product. You will not need to pay it if you have a MAC code.

Heh, i actually meant how much was it (as it's not stated on their website). I did some perusing through the forums and it seems it's £55. Meh :)

I've just called BT and got them to transfer our phone number to the new house at midday when we move. I am assuming that i am doing things the right/easiest way here, by cancelling my Orange connection and just starting a new one with whoever? Or is there a possibility of not having to pay the activation fee with whoever i choose to go with, if i keep my Orange net until after we move? And would that net work once we've moved and the phoneline has moved with us?

I'm thinking maybe, ask Orange for the MAC code, keep Orange internet until we're in the new house, then at 12:01 contact my new ISP and migrate (as they all seem to do it free) Am i right in thinking that would be nigh-on impossible to go smoothly?!

Yes. It's the only way really.

You can't "keep your Orange net" - it's going to have to be activated on the new line, whether that's via Orange (who would charge an activation fee or tie you in for a contract term) or any other ISP.

It won't work in the new house, because there won't be anything at the other end of the line in the exchange (and if there is, it won't be configured to let you use Orange).

Transferring the number isn't the same as transferring the ADSL service, and every line doesn't have an ADSL service that'll let you just show up and use any ISP.

Thanks. I just realised anyway that the Orange net here is on a separate line from the main phoneline that i just got BT to move (to keep the phone number). Oops :o

Just realised Orange want 30 days notice.. pft. /*gets on phone now to cancel*

Right. Thought i might get yelled at for starting a new thread. Our move starts tomorrow, and with the prospect of being 'netless' commencing on Monday i need to get my skates on.

I *think* i'm down to 3 choices: Newnet / Eclipse / Entanet

I was originally interested in Aquiss as an Entanet reseller, but realised they charge a fiver more every month for the same service. So out of those, the websites i like the look of (:o) are ADSL24 and UKFSN (i dont like the website but they seem well rated). The only thing with the Entanet resellers is that they seem to me like they could jsut be run from someones bedroom. I dont know why, they just strike me that way.

Newnet, i've only just 'discovered' but they seem very well rated. Is anyone here with them? I think things i'm interested in, is an easy control panel, a min contract under 6 months (pref 1 month), and good telephone support.

Any thoughts? :)

/QUOTE]

They are pretty much run from peoples "bedrooms". That is why Aquiss are charging more because they are a buisness and looking for more than £20,000 that got said by the previous owner of ADSL24 somewhere. With that said if any do go under Entanet will take charge and supply everyone with MAC codes and connection for you to go to another provider with.

In the end, you have to make the decision. :)

Hmn thanks for that. I've no problems with businesses run from 'bedrooms', it's just that with internet it's something i rather take for granted. Not to mention if soemthing disastrous happens i'd like to know there's an army of people at the other end of the phone (perhaps in India..) to moan at!

Really starting to rest on Newnet now, hmn.

The beauty though is that Entanet provide the support not say, UKFSN, so any support you get from the 'bedroom' is over and above the professional support that Entanet provide from the UK, not India.
