Recommend me cpu cooler

Currently i am using artic freezer pro 7 with e4300 overclocked to 3 Ghz but i want to push that to 3.2 ghz and would like to keep my temps under 55(full load)so i am thinking about upgrading my cpu cooler and my budget is anything between 30 to 40 quid any help will be much appreciated in advance.
 
Or the Thermalright Ultra... ;)

I have a ninja and the above mentioned, i personally prefer the Thermalright.
 
My vote is for the Tuniq, you might want to avoid the Thermalright Ultra as more often then not the base is concave and needs to be lapped.
 
too late guys i already ordered thermalright ultra 120,just want to know if i will able to use my side fan with this cooler.
 
can i have side fan on my antec 900

I have the Antec 900 and i very much doubt so, I have a much short cooler than the Thermalright and i have about a 2cm clearance with my side fan.

Don't worry though as it doesn't really make much difference to the temps, well not for me anyway and personally think its no not needed as the Antec 900 has ampule cooling anyway, I have it on purely for looks.

Can't say i've noticed a huge amount of people posting about it....

Perhaps i'm not looking hard enough.

It is a known issue. A fairly thorough look at it, with numerous pictures, can be found here.

It is claimed to be deliberate on Thermalright's part, rather than poor manufacturing and/or quality control.

Ok, its documented, but i wouldnt say that link shows.. 'numerous' pictures.... it's one person posting a review....

I'm not dismissing what you're saying...... it's just that you say numerous and .... and well........ it's not..... feel free to show me some more links though... i'm open-minded on the matter.
 
can any body tell me where i can get sandpaper for lapping,i have tried couple of DIY stores but no luck.

I could show you hundreds of links, but you can use a search engine as well as I can.

What exactly is being disputed here?

Interestingly, the author of that review had a concave, rough 120 and lapping it to a smooth flat surface made no difference at all.
 
Do you really need to lap it ? I'm not sure it makes a massive difference, some say yes some no, and it realy depends how hard you want to clock it ?
 
Strange this..from the FAQ on the Ultra-120 from thermalright.

Question 5: The bottom of the Ultra-120 eXtreme isn’t very shiny. Would I get better results if I lapped it?

Answer: A shiny surface does not necessarily mean a flat surface. Lapping only eliminates some of the larger gaps between the grains. We have demanding criteria for high quality especially when it comes to our heatsink base. The Thermalright heatsink you purchased does have a relatively flat surface therefore we do not recommend risking damage to your heatsink or your CPU DIE by lapping because results may not always be positive.

Now you would think if they had gone out of their way to machine the base concave, it would be a good reason for them to say dont lap it.
It would be so much easier for them to machine it flat, or does it bend /warp in the manafacturing process. (when they clamp heat pipes on)

Speaking as an engineer, it would be a LOT more work to machine it concave.

You'd have to be good at lapping as well to get it flat, as it would be inclined to go with the curve.
I spent many years as a toolmaker lapping stuff.

The difference in the ultra and the turniq tower is only 1 or 2 degrees in the tests ive seen down between about 20 differnt coolers. Not worth the extra price, especialy considering its not even flat!

Got no concave issue with mine........ makes very good contact and i get good temps...

Known fact aye?... ok.... if you so say...
 
They are VERY rarely anything other than completely flat. They do have grooves in though, which Thermalright believe increases the surface contact area and gives better heat transfer. If Thermalright wanted it lapped to a polished finish, they could easily do it. You're better off leaving it grooved and using the recommended 'line' of AS5 which will fill all those grooves nicely.
