Hi,
I want to get a new smaller Notebook so my 3 year old Dell Inspiron 6000 (2.1 processor, 2GB ram) is going to be spare. As it`s not worth much I might as well keep it and was thinking about getting a version of Linux running on it, rather than installing it into a Virtual MAchine. I`ve used Linux before and used Unix also and will be good to keep it as a skill.
So what is a good version of Linux to install these days? I`ve used mostly Redhat and Suse in the past. Are there drivers for Wifi? How about 3G USB sticks, can those be made to work with Linux? If not it`s no big deal but I will need the Wifi working. A friend recommended Gentoo but he spends half of his life getting it working just right, and I don`t have time for that, just want to install it, have little problem getting Wifi working, sound etc, and then use it, possible running a web server on it on my LAN and using it for scripting and software development.
Cheers!
