Recommend me some DVD Authoring software

I'm after a piece of software that will let me create a DVD containing slideshows of JPEGs and short (~30sec) AVIs complete with background music, accessible via a personalised menu system. The resulting DVD needs to be region free so that it can be played on standard DVD players in Australia.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what piece of software might fit the bill? I'm willing to pay for a retail app if it's going to be significantly better than a freeware app.

you could try dvdlab http://www.mediachance.com/download.htm but you would have to encode the avi's to dvd compliant MPEG, or dvd styler, http://www.dvdstyler.de/ but you would still have to use dvd compliant mpegs. So you would need to convert them to 720x576, 25fps with mp2 or ac3 audio, assuming australia has the PAL tv system. The free trial of TMPG can do it www.tmpgenc.net. Every home made dvd is region free, there is no reason for the program to add region protection.
