Recommend me some games from the past 10 years

I've been out of PC gaming for some time, but have just built myself a new gaming rig for my living room from second hand parts and now I'm looking for some games to play. I did have an XBox 360 for a while, so I've not been completely out of the loop, but I do feel like I've probably missed quite a bit.

So... what can people recommend from the past 10 years? I generally play FPS games, but I like action/adventure and puzzle games as well, and I've played some RTS and sim games in the past.

The specs of the PC I've got are as follows:

Core i5 4590
4GB RAM (will be upgraded to 8GB in the near future)
GTX 970

I'll be playing on a 1080p TV from across the room, so I think the hardware should be up to the job for most games, particularly older stuff. I've got a 360 controller and a Steam controller, and if I really need a keyboard and mouse for something then I can stream to my Mac in the other room.

As you like FPS games, the Metro games and Crysis games might be a good place to start. Wolfenstein The New Order too.

I remember trying the Crysis demo just as I was getting out of PC gaming, and it ran terribly, and everywhere you looked it was "Yeah, but will it run Crysis." It would probably be quite fitting to go back to it now
