Ok so I'm a big metal head and have an extensive collection (over 100 metal albums)

I like bands like:

Arch Enemy
As I Lay Dying
Chimaira
God Forbid
Bullet For My Valentine
Killswitch Engage (early stuff)
Hatebreed

etc: I like as little singing as possible, bit bored of the sing-shout-sing-shout, like Trivium.

Although Bullet are very much like this I find it a bit less predictible.

So post away and I will give them a go...

Well, I'd suggest

In Flames
The Haunted
At The Gates
Children of Bodom
Norther
Machine Head
Fear Factory
Pantera
Lamb Of God

I'd say they were smilar to Arch Enemy in terms of general heavyness, not really screaming or anything either. I know what you mean about the vocals though, it can be a bit much sometimes.

Thanks, didnt get on with In Flames although I can see why people like them.

Will try The Haunted and give Children of Bodom another go I think.

Ah Fear Factory, Obsolete was my first metal album :D back in 1998 I think. Then bought all there stuff shortly after same with Pantera and Machine Head.

Naming just the band is pretty pointless imo, you end up sifting through countless amounts of albums until you find a song you like. So, i'll suggest some songs that maybe to your liking, then you can take it from there.

Dark Tranquillity - Final resistance
Dark Tranquillity - Monochromatic Stains
Soilwork - Needlefeast
Soilwork - Shadowchild
Darkane - Secondary Effects
Darkane - Layer of Lies
Cipher System - Life Surrounds
Cipher System - Complete

Thanks, good idea, although I saw Dark Tranquility and was not impressed at all. Infact I was bored.

a lot of dark tranquillity songs are quite boring, but a lot arent. Not a great "live" band either. The songs i mentioned are far from boring imo. Plus, i find that to enjoy a live band, you need to know the songs they're playing.

Could add Dimmu Borgoir to that list as well.

Pretty good very much like Cradle of Filth.

Couple of others would be...

Meads of Asphodel
Darkthrone
Nile

Neil

Depending on your definition of "metal":

Avenged Sevenfold
Saxon
Scorpions
Sepultura
Skid Row
Cinderella
AC/DC
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Judas Priest
Guns 'n Roses

I suppose it depends on if you like the "big hair" metal for a fair number of those bands. :)

If you don't like In Flames there must be something wrong with you though:p.

Probabaly the best band in the world

Another couple:

Slayer - Reign In Blood
Devildriver - Devildriver

Also you might want to check out

Dog Fashion Disco - Committed to a Brighter Future

although they're not really heavy, and are probabaly an aquired taste, they are intersting and quite unique :)
