a M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo

i need 8 gig of ddr3 minimum

dont want to go crazy money .. but will want to go 16gb at some point so a 2x4 gb set-up would be a preferable start :cool:

yes mate, i have the same board the normal not the le. and im running 2x4gb 1866mhz no problem...any 1600, 1866mhz will work in it but with the 965 you wont get 1866 it will run at 1600

silly question then .. why would a cpu limit what ram speed you can run ?

It's the integrated memory controller (IMC) on the chip can only support 1600MHz at a max, 1866MHz RAM will work just fine, just at 1600MHz. In fact the chip officially only supports 1333MHz max as standard, 1600MHz is considered an overclock

well i paid well under 40 notes for it , so this will do me for now. and if i do need to changes things i'll just do a nice 2nd build for under my downstairs tv to run steam in console mode
