Hey Guys

Looking to purchase a Q6600 with either an ABIT ip35 Pro or an EVGA 680i motherboard. And a little stumped on what memory to choose for the board. Cnsidering I'll be spending (what seems to me) a fair bit of cash on a sytem upgrade, I dont want to selll myself short on the ram and just choose something for the sake of it. So would really like some input on some decent RAM sticks.

many Thanks and Happy Friday

any decent brand 6400 will do. Don't waste money on 8500+ chips as with your Q6600 you are unlikely to overclock past 3.6 = 9 x 400 or 8 x 450.

Decent 6400 memory will do 450 at it's stock timings if you are lucky or certainly no worse timings than the 8500 stuff is anyway.

Crucial seems to be having major problems with failing chips atm (see threads on here) so go for Corsair, gskill, geil or ocz. Probably just get whichever ocuk have on offer tbh.

Myself I have the ABIT ip35 Pro and Q6600 and I have just bought Corsair 6400 4-4-4-12 2 x 2gb memory but not from ocuk as they are not selling it yet (or they weren't when I bought mine). The 4-4-4-12 memory from Corsair is only £2 more than their 5-5-5-12 memory so seemed worth the extra.

Getting 2 x 2gb leaves me room to upgrade easily in the future.

I'll let you know how I get on with it this weekend.

Cheers Greebo, would be interesting to know how you get on with your new RAM. Thanks for your advice and recomendations.

any of greebo's options are good but it seems like their is a shortage of 4gb kits on ocuk, the geil has disappeared and the gskill is out of stock :??

Agreed the geil has disappeared. Gskill showing stock of one but they have plenty of corsair or ocz in stock. Still a shame they are not yet selling the better corsair memory yet.
