Recommend me some strategy type games

Company of Heroes is quite old but has aged very well imo

World in Conflict is a fantastic game, though I don't know what the online community is like atm, not sure if there are many players left.

If you can get C&C First Decade quite cheap it is definitely worth a punt, especially if you download the unofficial patches people have made for RA1 and the other early games. True classic RTS gaming to be had :D

Civilization 4 is another great game. Civ 5 is okay too but lacks the depth of its predecessor. If you do decide to get Civ 4, make sure it is with the Beyond the Sword expansion pack, which makes the game even better.

As for c&c if I get this which 1 or 2 should I play there are so many,,,Id prob only play 1...But the older ones are better? But have worse gfx obviously.

Is satrcraft 2 similar to C&C?

I liked Warcraft 1 back in the day lol...this is same as Warcraft 3 which is old and SC2? In terms of play...same company?

I liked sim city and theme park back in the day as well. I guess the closest thing to this is Tropico?

I also remember playing age of empires? So Civ 4 would be like this?

What about games like shogun etc they look quite cool

If you want to play C&C, get The First Decade - it contains all of the oldschool classics.

Starcraft 2 is only similar in the sense that it is also a real time strategy game with resources and base building. Starcraft 2's appeal lies in the game balance and the multiplayer, which are second to none.

Warcraft 3 is a good update if you were a fan of Warcraft 1/2 back in the day. The MP was fairly fun as I recall, certainly worth a go.

If you liked Simcity back in the day, Simcity 4 is a good game to try. Very in depth and will keep you occupied for hours!

Civ 4 will be NOTHING like age of empires (for starters, it isn't in real-time). If you never played Civilization I recommend you try a demo and see if it is your cup of tea. I personally rate Civ4+Beyond the Sword very, very highly.

The Total War series are also very, very good games for the tactically minded player. You'll need to think a lot more about what you're doing to win. Good recent offerings in the series include Empire/Napoleon and Shogun 2.

Panzer Corps.

Released a few weeks ago, it's basicaly a remake of panzer general.

Quality game, war and turn based, but simple accessible, quite an addictive hooker.

Everyone mentions company of heroes but I much prefer Dawn of war 2 and the expansions. Very fun story rpg element campaigns and the multiplayer is eactly same game mechanics as company of heroes except instead of being limited to infantry fights with a few tanks artillery, you have jump troops teleporting troops heroes, tanks big monsters much more fun in my book.

Summery: same as COH except DOW2 has more fun units.

What's the last stand mode in DOW2 like exactly? i am playing COH at the moment which i enjoy a lot but have both DOW games to play still.:)

Overall...WHOA...theres so many off these games going back over last 5-10 years..to many to choose

I tried CIV4 and its not really the same as the others, turn based and big figures on huge world....I prefer age of empires, type thing more realistic buildigns scaled etc...

What about a game called CITIES XL 2011.....new sim city..mixed reviews?

And I recalled a very old game called Desparados I once had as a kid and I got this again.
I remeber it was cool but I got stck..I wanna try again..

Only cowboy RTs game lol

So im thinking there are 4 types of strategy games im after.

1. A city building sim..eg..tropico, sim city, etc

2. A building sim with some fighting, wars...AGe of empires, dawn of discovery etc..

2. A fighting sim with building..eg..Starcraft, C&C, warcraft etc

3. A pure fighting sim...eg. desparados, Men of war? etc

Empire total war is eating my time atm. Much harder and more tactical. Trickier to pick up and play but far far more rewarding once you grasp it.
