I have just had Fibre fitted and it’s spurred me on to redo the Wi-Fi in my home
i was previously with virgin with the cable running under the floor and out close to the consumer unit (which I intend to build a cupboard around)
the installer for fibre would not route the fibre this way as it was against his company’s policies and put it wall mounted into the living room
this was the setup
20 port 1GB switch located next to consumer unit, cat5e hard wired around the home all terminating into rj45 outlets also next to consumer unit
I have 2 Clearflow Air3‘s set as access points , one in the kitchen and one in the attic room , virgin router next to consumer unit but this will be removed
the current setup only differs with the new fibre router connecting to the switch and the access points using this network
the reason I want to redo things is because the clearflow things are huge and are a bit hit and miss, sometimes getting pauses in connection for a minute or two , the new fibre router Wi-Fi and it’s boosters reception are a bit poor in my home
ideally I’d like something that can plug into the rj45 sockets (available in all rooms ) and give me good coverage with decent speeds throughout the home but it has to be reasonably small
I’m not totally against power line adaptors but I know many people don’t rate them and it’s all dependent on the wiring
I did toy with just having some form of repeater/booster that just goes into a mains socket in each room to use with phones and tablets and have my pc wired to the network
I dunno, I’m no expert so I’ve no idea what the current recommendations are
ps my home is about 100 years old with thick walls and has 3 floors to cover- only one room doesn’t have a wired setup as I had to place a builtin wardrobe infront of the socket
