hi guys

ok, im trying to get my boss to allow me to upgrade this crappy HP machine to something more beefy, but due to us being a newish startup company funds are limited

i would ideally like a 2500k as i do some video editing, lots of photoshop, run a webserver etc all on this machine

so:

2500k

can someone recommend me a decent mobo that will allow me to OC to 4.4+ STABLE (needs to be rock solid as its for work not gaming)

cheap stable powersupply

8gb ram (will be using win7 64bit) - obviously as fast as poss but reasonable price

cpu HSF to allow the overclock. prefer to be quiet as its in an office although we have radio on all the time

decent case that wont break the bank

thx: im not used to building cheapo machines i tend to buy the higher quality stuff at home

BUDGET ? and if you take time to read the article you will see there are diffrent levels of editing .

depending on how much video editing/photoshopping you do i would recommend the 2600K over the 2500K, if its not that much feel free to drop the 2500K into the build.

case is personal preference but the silvestone looks ok for fitting in an office.

wasnt sure if you had any SATA DVD drives and hard drives around so i figured i;d include some in the spec.

the cooler should fit in the case but it will be a very tight squeeze. there is someone on these forums who has the same cooler + case and he says it touches the side of the case. i couldnt find a bigger case that was half decent anywhere near that cheap though (the coolermaster HAF912 was the first that came to mind, but thats £70)

if you have the money i would recommend upgrading to an i7 2600k.

also, its just a thought, but are you using a video editing program that can make use of the cuda cores of an Nvidia graphics card? if you are or can then it would be faster than anything the i7 2600k could do

thanks guys.

one of the 2500k bundles (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-014-OP) the reviewer says he can get 4.4ghz on the stock cooler. is that feasible or has he forgotten to add he is using a viper etc??

im still to find out a budget but it really needs to be as cheap as possible.

im not sure a 2600k would be worth the extra cash to be honest. ive been managing on a p4 2Ghz for the last 4 years! ;)

if it was me i would get a 2600k but times are tight here. i only do the odd bit of video editing - its mainly photoshop and CAD viewing that are the problem.

Would a dedicated gpu like a gtx 570 be better than the onboard graphics on the cpu?

im looking at a basic 6500 ATI as i dont do any 3d. they are dirt cheap.

i have a 8600 low profile in this machine which i could maybe move across but its the little pci-express slot so i guess the 6500 pciexpress 16 would be a big enough improvement.

i do run a 24" montior at 1920x1200 and a 2nd at 1280x1024

im amazed ive managed to cope with this POS machine for so long!

ok, boss bought it! :) he is getting my old desktop and getting himself an ipad2 for out and about stuff

so, i opted for:
