I am looking at upgrading my whole rig in the near future and tbh I have not kept up on graphics cards at all.

What I'm looking for is a card (Pci-e) that can handle day to day tasks, I don't use this system for gaming at all, but I would like it to be quiet and if possible compatiable with vista when it's released. Budget wise I have about £150 to spend.

Thanks for any advice

The Leadtek Geforce 7600GT is only £131.54 including VAT at the moment, is pretty quiet from what friends have told me, and will actually play games pretty decently should the mood ever take you.

Yeah 7600gt will be good. Or if you wanted it even more quiet you could get a 7600gs passive. It wont be as powerful but will be cheaper and can still handle most games.

Thanks very much for the quick replys, much appreciated. Now at least I have an idea as to what Im looking for :D

That's a-lot, especially if you don't game. Also, don't forget that Windows Vista will bring in DX10 cards, of which none are out yet. I'd suggest you wait till Vista or DX10 cards come out, then get a passively cooled one

40 quid inc vat and delivery will get you a 7300gs 256mb card. very good for the cash.

i have to agree, theres little point in paying anymore than this amount of money for a grpahics card that wont be used for gaming.

Thanks for all the replies people, you have really helped me narrow the search for a new card.

This is some good advice I think.

So the long term plan will be get a 7300 for now (save some cash) and then when the DX10 cards come out in the future I can always upgrade then.

Thanks again for the advice :)

I have a xfx 7600gt in my system, and its excellent in anything apart from Oblivion. I also have 2 gigs of ram and a amd 3200+ oc'd to 2.5 ghz.

I can run battlefield 2 at max settings, the fps never drops below 40, quake 4 i can set max aa and anitrosopy at 1280*1024 and its slick as long as there arent too many enemies on screen, f.e.a.r is excellent at 1024*768 (not much of a performance deficit when i push up to 1280 either) with 4x aa...basically the 7600gt is definetely the card that most people who dont have silly money should be getting.

And if you want to try sli then Im told its as easy as putting the other card in and changing a setting in the bios.

In oblivion, the performance takes a big hit, I personally put the draw distance and distant buildings on max, then I just scale things down from there. Ive removed all the shadows except for the shadows that people and creatures cast, put water detail to medium, aa at 4x...when im inside a building its fine but outside its a bit of a pig tbh...

Could anyone tell me if the HIS radeon x1800xt 512mb (£205 inc vat!!!) would solve my oblivion problems? Also would my amd 3200 oc'd to 2.5 ghz be bottlenecking it?
