I am looking for a new monitor, currently have a 19" CRT @ 1600 x 1200...

Need some advice on which one to get and what resolution id need.
The problem is that i want the resolution to be atleast 1600 x 1200, but widescreen :p, mainly used for gaming and general office type stuff :) (PC Spec in sig if needed)

Would i need 1920 x 1200 or 1680 x 1050?

Asked a few people, some said the first, rest said the latter ...

Suggestions ?

PS: I rather like this one myself - not too sure if i would need it.... hence thread :)

It really depends on what you will be using it for. I have both the Dell 2407WFP and NEC 20WGX2. I use the NEC for gaming and the Dell + NEC when I working as I love the extra space.

LG L226WTQ 22" is the best bargain i have bought in a long time, native resolution of 1680x1050, 3000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms response time, couldnt ask for a lot more really, especially when its so cheap.

I've just jumped from 19"TFT to 24" & I am very pleased in comparison when you jump from a 19" to 24" the heigh difference is only 1" but... the width your talking an extra 6" in width which makes the 24" diagonal.

If I was you if you can afford it purchase a 24" you wont regret it I am really happy with mine - 4 year guarantee as well. :)

Thanks for the replies :)

Would i have to scale down some games resolutions / settings if i went with a monitor that has a resolution of 1680 x 1050?

So seems i would get the Dell 24" Widescreen if thats a yes and a 8800 GTX (Looking for a new graphics card too)

Hi, from what reviews and comments ive read on current 24" monitors the dell 2407 seems like a great monitor.

Yes, if you wanted to power your games at full native res (1920 x 1200) you would need a beefy graphics card (also depends what games your running- would be wise to have a look at some benchmarks at different res's and compare to your rig?) but even if you ran at a lower res the monitor has 1:1 pixel mapping which would make things pixel perfect :p

Buying a 24" 1920 x 1200 res monitor like the dell will guarantee you 1080p, so if you were to play an xbox 360/ ps3/ high definition movies in the future this would be able to do this.

However if you buy a 22/20" alternative you will only get a max res 1680 x 1050 and therefore unable to watch 1080p content.

The other monitors currently in the same 24" range:
BenQ FP241WZ (pricey and not much better than dell)
LG L245WP (not as good as dell but is pricey - only recently released here in europe)
Samsung 244t (v. pricey but has its advantages and suitable for professional use- soon to be replaced by 245t but no doubt will still be v expensive)
New NEC 22 24 26" monitors..

Thanks, ill go with the Dell, after reading some reviews / posts it seems to be the best one atm
