Morning all

just wondering if anyone could recommend me a decent modem / router. Just had a letter from BT saying i can ow get up to 900mbit On fibre 2 atm up to 68mbit however i use a old modem router Td-w98980 (years old now 10+ ) So looking to upgrade as this won't accept speeds past 100mbit.

I have looked at a TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band as i want to stay with TP-link as I'm using TP link power plugs and a repeater .

Assuming with a new router i can just login and and set the network name and password the same as i have now so tv's, skybox , cameras alarm etc all just carry on as they are?.

Hoping someone maybe able to help please?

Thank you

If you’re paying that much you may as well pay a little more and get the BE9300.

As long as the wireless network name and password is set up the same as currently everything will just connect and work automatically.
Thank for the reply , so what does that offer more than the AXE5400 anything more noticeable ?

Thank you

Why not start by telling us what exactly is it that you want to do that the router BT will supply you with for fibre can’t/won’t do? Also repeaters
Had an old bt router and it was shocking never been a fan of them myself hence i then bought the Td-w98980. The speeds seems a lot better and stable to what the BT router was giving me and at the time the wireless was a waste of time.

Only bought the repeater and power plugs as we extended the back of the house as the Td-w98980 struggled a bit with wireless .

To be fair i've got friends and family that have BT and moan the router from them is poor. Not something i'm looking to swap too as this Td-w98980 might be old but never fails me hence looking to buy a newer one for fast speeds from BT now

Just want stable speeds and good wireless for tvs phones , alarms and camera etc .

Thank you

This was true years ago it was awful but the smart hub plus which BT/EE started giving out 3 or 4 months ago is wifi 6 and not garbage. I would try that first before you go for something else. It can atleast support the 900 speeds unlike the previous router.
Ah really it has come on then might have to give it a go .

I assume it would work ok with my tp link power plugs and repeater and i could stil just change the network name and password to the one i have now ok ?

Thank you

I just got fttp recently
A few hauwei ax3 at 30 quid a pop
Gives me a WiFi 6 mesh network
Only took 500Mbs plan
They are handling it easily
Still toying with price between the 500 and 900 package i was offered .
Full Fibre 500 £32.99 24months as the 900 one is about £58 think it was .

On Fibre 2 55mb atm so 500 would be massive difference to us .

I would not even consider going with BT very overpriced.

Check to see who all the providers are which will be available and I would check to make sure you don't have alt net available or coming soon.
Not having virgin and city fibre have just turned up but not having garden or drive dug up .Seen the mess they’ve made on the street .

To be fair when I compared prices they were pretty decent .

Not sure there’s any other options around here to be fair but will double check thank you .

You won't need modem just router

And what speed are the repeater and power plugs?
New routers nice but will they also support up to 900?

As well as setting wifi network name and password
Think you will also need to know your isp username and password
In order to set up a new router
Right found a BT hub 2 I have so will test this now and see what it's like

It appears I'm on contract with BT for another year so it will have to be an upgrade with them going to speak to them and see what deal i can get .

With regards to my powerplugs sees this is what the TP-link app shows me off my desktop computer

Thank you

Spoke to bt on chat contracted till 2026 .

Can get full fibre 900MB for £44 .

Didn’t realise they needed to send a engineer out assume they don’t need to dig drive or lawn up does anyone know .

Did try try a old bt hub I have found wifi seemed to work but cameras and alarm on the house didn’t no idea why .

Soon a switched backto my old one they were fine.

Fibe isn't magic, they do actually need to run it to the property, replacing the existing copper line, that may be brought in via ground via duct or micro trench, or mast depending on the area. Reboot the client devices and you'll likely find
Yeah thought they'd use the line i have to be fair didn't really think they'd need to run a new line and box there .
Will retest the cameras and reboot them up but strange as there hardwired in so thought they'd work fine . As for the Alarm thats my installer as i can't access anything from here to join the network it's on .
Yeah needs an engineer
Each install can be different in how
They get it into your property
Mine was underground so they prepped it all
Brought it up and to a box on exterior of the building
Even with the preparation work done
Still needs an engineer to take it through the wall
Then run it to where you want
And install the ONT
The ONT replaces the modem you needed before
So only need a router

Even if you name your wifi the same
And same wifi password
Some devices get temperamental and may need to
Set them up again
Don't forget to get your isp log in details before switching router
If you don't know what they are
Thanks for the reply will test things again later and see if it works rebooting other than alarm . I assume the fact my old router is http://192.168.1.1 and the Bt ones seems to be 192.168.1.254 that wouldn’t mess up the IPs of the camera and alarm, just guessing and not sure myself atm ?

Thank you
