Hi All,

My son's XBOX 360 is not reading discs, he wants to sell it as faulty for £10 or so and buy a new package for £170- yeah right!

I built my own PC, So i'm fairly confident taking things apart and having a go, so, can anyone recommend a disk drive. I've noticed Benq are fairly popular, and a toshiba/samsung.

Thanks

Sadly, it's not as simple as just swapping it out.

I think there is a lot more to it... But will let the guys answer as I am not sure.

Yeah, the 360 drives hold their own firmware, specific to the consoles. Also, I believe that altering the firmware, even for legit reasons can have the console banned from live... but as above. someone with more knowledge should post up, as I'm going on things I read along time ago

Indeed, after investigating further I think it is more complex than I thought.....

I'll replace the Laser and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for repsonses

when my old 360's drive stopped reading discs, i bought a replacement drive (same make and model) and swapped the PCB over, job done.
