Hey

I am looking to play a online RPG, or MMORPG.....whatever.

I used to play WoW years back and more recently Lord of the Rings Online. Both games I enjoyed but didn't have the time to fully dedicate to the game, both of them have got a little boring for me now.

I am looking for a smiler type of game to play, good community of players, not to graphically demanding (im running a core2,2gb ram, 8800GT), no monthly subscriptions, and most important a game that I can just pick up and play when im in the mood....not one that will make me feel like I need to lose my life to play the game to its max :)

Any ideas? If I can get it on steam then....even better!

Ta!

Have you looked at Guildwars?

Its never been one I have looked at to be honest. Ill have a look for some reviews :)

It seems a lot more suited to the casual player from what I have seen.

I'm in the same boat as you but continue to play LOTRO simply because its Tolkien. It takes me ages to progress but I love being in the world.

Steam recently came out with a list of F2P MMO type games.
Forsaken World, Global Agenda, Champions Online FFA, Spiral Knights.
Forsake World seems to be the fav of some people I know who have tried them.

Had a quick look at Guildwars last night and its quite cheap on steam, loads of expansions for it....so it seems? Big world I take it?

Mark3h do you play Forsaken World? I looked at the screenshots for it and it reminded me a little of RF Online?

Guild Wars is 100% instanced, just so you know. Once you're outside the city hubs, it's all just you and your group.

Try DDO Online too. Fairly generous F2P model, although you do eventually hit a ceiling where it becomes necessary to fork out.

Forsaken World I found really derivative and boring, just another churned-out eastern grind-fest.

Global Agenda is really good, but once you hit about lvl 15 it's all just lobby and instances.

Global Agenda more of a TF2 clone then a traditional RPG.

EQ2 now free with EQ2X and Conan just went F2P. Or check Steam, loads of deals on it right now.

Runes of Magic - http://www.runesofmagic.com/en/index.html
WoW Clone but it has an item/cash shop. The main difference is there's a dual class system, so you can have a Mage/Priest. They each need to level up but you can use skills from the other class.

Dungeons & Dragons Online - http://www.ddo.com/
I never really played this, not my type of game. Perhaps more people will be able to help you.

Perfect World - http://pwi.perfectworld.com/
This is my favourite MMORPG of all time, I've played this game for years. It's a chinese styled MMORPG, has loads of classes and a reasonable number of instances. It has a cash shop but Perfect World has a system where you can trade in-game coin for currency used in the cash shop. It has European server's coming soon so I'll notify you when that happens. :P I'd highly recommend this game****

Shaiya - http://shaiya.aeriagames.com/
I have no clue what the userbase is nowadays but it's an average game.

Atlantica - http://atlantica.nexon.net/
This game has a unique turn-based-system, it works a bit like chess! I'd highly recommend trying this game out!

Allods Online - http://en.allods.gpotato.eu/
Again, another WoW clone but less popular than Runes of Magic.

I found it to be another soul-less asian grinder. Better then average but still nothing special. Same for Shaiya.

I've heard bad things about this one at higher levels. Heard the cash shop become almost mandatory, so it will cost you a lot to play.

Which was what killed off Allods Online before it even got started. Shame as that game had promise.

Yeah, I'm the kind of player that loves a bit of grind, Aion was right up my street. :P
It only gets grindy around level 60 where you need to kill mobs to level up but there's a few new instances that are dailies designed to help levelling.

The Atlantica thing is definitely true but It's still a great game to try. :)

Vindictus also comes out soon for EU, one of the most popular games in Korea and the US at the moment.

Thanks for all the recommendations I will have a look into them all when I get home...Perfect World sounds good.

Did any of you guys play LOTRO? did you like it?

Cheers
