Im looking for a good quality set of headphones for mainly listening to music on my pc, but i would sometimes also use them for gaming. Ive currently got a Xfi Xtreme Music sound card. I haven't got a clue when it comes to headphones the last ones i had were sony in-ear from a good few years ago, so any help is appreciated ! Cheers!

If you want a good budget pair then i can reccomend the Sennheiser HD-201 headphones..I have a pair and they are very good headphones.Only cost me £14.50 too :D best money ive ever spent.

Your budget allows higher end cans, although I agree with fish99 that the Porta Pro make great starter cans. They may not look like much... But for £30, you get very good sound indeed (hooked in into headphones :D).

Other good sub 100 Euro cans include the Alessandro MS-1 (watch out for the confort though - and not my first choice for gaming), Beyerdynamic DT770, Audio Technica ATH-500, Sennheiser HD555.

What sort of music are you into?

Hey guys nice one for the replys, Im mainly into metal at the moment Killswitch engage, shadows fall, lamb of god etc, but i also like some stevie ray vaughn and pink floyd now and again.

Where is the best online place to shop for headphones?

Cheers.

The rules don't allow us to name specific retailers.

Grado/Alessandro's would be good for metal I would think. Alessandros are sort of modified Grados, but they're better value than Grados thanks to Grados being very overpriced in the UK. Koss have a similar sound to Grados, but might be a bit too open and airy for metal, but they're superb with something like Pink Floyd. Metal is perhaps the only type of music where you don't want that openness because it takes some of the edge off the music if the instruments are seperated out too much (depending on how heavy the music is). Sennheiser are perhaps more suited to classical.

Sennheisers are great, had 2 pairs one current, you typically get a long lead which is handy.
All headphones `colour` the sound adding their own brightness/warmth and its a matter of personal taste if you have any mates that have good ones have a listen to them or check out your local muso shop.
Unfortunately you can`t test them out at a shop, they can`t sell them with ear wax lol but >£50 means better quality.
