Built this computer from OCUK components in 2009 and had to move abroad in that same year it's just been sitting in my mum's cupboard gathering dust for almost 4 years, it's missing a graphics card, hard drives and memory.

Components still inside it are:
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.66Ghz (Nehalem).
Motherboard: Gigabye GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 DDR3.
PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W ATX2.2.
Case: Antec 902.
CPU Cooler: Fenrir Titan.

I would like to make it workable again as a mid-range gaming and video processing computer. Not sure what tests and checks I need to do to make sure it's still in working order.

What would you all recommend I buy to replace the missing components and should I replace anything already in there?

I think an SSD for the OS would be preferable as I already have spare hard drives I could use for the storage drives. I also need to buy a monitor at least 24" but no need for a particularly expensive one.

No budget in mind as I'm fairly flexible in that area but under 500 quid would be ideal.

i'd start by testing the psu out of the system, google for "psu power up paper clip" it will come up with a few links to help you.

personally i'd get memory, the cheapest/smallest hard drive you can find, cheap pci-e graphics card and see how that runs in the system if the psu tests ok.

if the psu doesn't test then get a new psu as well.

reason i say about the cheap hard drive/gfx is if the motherboard has issues and blows it doesn't happen to take out your ssd/expensive gfx card.

Came up with the following, includes memory, ssd & hard drive, gaming gfx card and cheap test gfx card, memory and PSU in case it needs replacing.

couldn't list triple channel memory as ocuk have none in stock, but you might be able to find some elsewhere if you look around.
