Current system (NO wireless) Origo ASR-8400 3 computers

Can’t decide gives me wireless.

1. Linksys AM200 & a Linksys WRT54GL
2. Netgear DG834G
3. Billion BiPAC 7300G

Any help please, I do like a nice browser interface and the ability to switch off the wireless would be useful.
my Origo has the JMK firmware I also have a utility to backup all the settings in the router (Very Useful).

Most routers now a days have a backup facilty.

I'd go with the WRT54GL and tomate 3rd party firmware!

Well I personally had a low wireless signal after I installed the DD-WRT firmware but that may just have been a one off with my setup?

I like the tomato firmware my self :D

Great routers though, had 3 different models and they have all been fantastic!

And there on this "week only offer" on the OCuK website too....handy!

I didn't use one mate

Done it a few times before

Shame your not in the members market as I have one boxed for sale :)

Just get the correct firmware version, log into the router and go to admin page then underneath you will see firmware upgrade, browse to the file and bobs your uncle!

Make sure to reset router fully after, hold reset button in for 30secs whilst router is powered up, power off router (still hold reset for another 30secs) then power router up still holding for 30secs and your off 1min 30secs in total ;)

Sorry mate read below ;)

Members Market?
The members market is provided as a free service to active and contributing forum members. OcUK are not liable for any deals that are done in the Members Market, you are free to buy and sell at your own risk. Please read the rules of the Members Market before you proceed to make your first sale.

Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 250 posts and have been signed up for at least 90 days. Please note that this does not mean you spam the forums simply to increase your posts, as this action will result in posts being deducted, and if you continue this behaviour, your account will eventually be banned/suspended. Once you reach 250 posts, you will need to activate your trust. This is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

Once you satisfy both of these criteria, Members Market access will be granted within 24hrs. Please do not post on the forums asking why you cannot access the members market, if you have any queries, email one of the forum Dons/Admins. The contact addresses are available in the FAQ.

OK this is a private sale sorry I thought you were referring to OcUK’s stock sorry for the confusion, and I would not dream of spanning the forum just to bump up my posts, I don’t operate that way.
Thanks for the explanation.

I it wasn't pointing at the fact people spam mate just so you knew what the member markets is all about :)

Let me know how you get on with the WRT54GL when you get it up and running ;)

is installing custom firmware on the WRT54 routers viable anymore? because according to wikipedia the latest versions have had the flash mem reduced in size, so i would have thought it may be difficult to fit custom firmwares on, especialy firmwares that can do any specialy stuff that the default firmware cant.

thats the only reason i havnt got one of the wrt54 routers from OCUK myself, as they cant garuntee that itll be a good version, and not a version with tiny flash mem.

Really glad you posted this before I got myself into a pickle.
In light of this and other research I’ve done I think I will go for an all in one solution, any thoughts on the Linksys WAG200G (home user) or the older WAG54GS

There are mini/micro versions of the firmware and I know for a fact that tomato firmware works fine on a WRT54GLv3 as I had it on my router?

the GS goes up to version 7, which has 2mb flash (8mb in older versions) and 16mb ram (32 in old versions). the GL models haves 4mb flash.

I down loaded the firmware and it states (WRT54G.bin is for Linksys WRT54G v1-4 and WRT54GL v1.) I must admit I'm totally baffled as to why the routers are down graded as newer versions came out

maybe its to reduce cost to manufacture, and the only need to have lots of ram and flash is for installing other firmware. If they reduce the ram and flash they can keep selling for the same price per unit (for more profit, or sell for less per unit and get more sales) and force people to use that companys firmware (unless small size custom firmware is available, which may not be better then the default firmware).
