i there half way through pc build can anyone recommend a fully modular psu to power

MSI Z97A Gaming 7 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150
memory not decided as i dont know what fastest ram it can have
MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB
2x 120mm fans and a Corsair Hydro H100i
x2 ssd

Any plans to SLI in the future ?

For a single card then 550W is fine. I would go with 750W for SLI.

As already said, 550w is more than enough for just about any single gpu setup these days. Unfortunately there is little choice for a quality modular 550w unit so my recommendation is the EVGA GS650w. It's a fully modular unit built by Seasonic and being only a fiver more than the 550w version is a much better buy. I would also wait to see what deals turn up tomorrow.
