Recommendation for 6800GT Replacement

The 6800GT in my gaming PC appears to have succumbed to old age. It was artifacting and crashing in 3D stuff over the last few days and now it doesn't even get past the BIOS boot graphic.

So, I need to replace it, and seeing as it's an AGP system, it is hard to find clear comparisons of the candidate cards. I will be upgrading the whole PC within a year, so I don't want to spend a lot, preferably £100 or less. I see that 2nd-hand 6800GTs go for around £50, so that's always an option, but I'm wondering if there are better alternatives. Would the 7600GT be a good choice for instance?

If you want to buy new the 7600GT is a good option, it is marginally faster than the 6800GT. Beyond that, there's not really anything worth buying except for the x1950pro which is MILES faster but carries a much bigger price tag.

edit: On closer inspection you can get this for £105 which would be somewhere in between: XFX GeForce 7800 GS Extreme Edition 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail

Cheers, I'll take a look at the 7800GS too. That's if I manage to confirm that it really is the card. I can't get the machine to boot with video using an old GeForce256 AGP or an ancient Diamond Stealth PCI card. I begin to suspect that there are more problems.

And a test of the cards in another PC confirms that they're okay. Looks like the motherboard is borked.
