I'm after a graphics card to replace the very old Geforce 6600 that is in my server.

I've just installed Windows 7 into a VM and I cannot give the thing enough RAM to run Aero, so I think it's time to upgrade.

It would be nice if I could run some games on it, but nothing exciting. I'd rather it be cheap than awesome.

Any recommendations for something we know works well with Ubuntu?

radeo hd 5450 my friend has one and it seems to run aero nicely but its not so nice for modern games but its very very cheap :-)

Try and pick up a 8800GT or 9800 cheap. I have an 8800 in my other comp and it plays games fine but not brilliant. Aero is not a prob for it.

I did have Ubuntu with it for a spell but prefered the windows layout, so went back to that.

8800 is an awesome card, i had one including a gts model for around 2 years... did the job nicely, but they do require a 6 pin adapter... what PSU is he running?
