Just looking at selling my X800XL and purchase a new card.

I'm after something quick that will be suitable for FSX.

What's the low down on DirectX10 at the moment? I've heard that it's only supported by Vista and that you will need new cards at the same time.

Is there anything worthwhile buying at the moment that will support DX10?

Well DirectX 10 cards are due to hit September/October time if I remember correctly in the form of the nVidia G80 and the Radeon R600 (Although this is mostly rumour). Nothing much is known about these cards at the moment. The thing to remember is these cards will be supported by windows XP you will just need to buy Vista to use the DirectX10 features on the cards.

Nothing on the market at the moment supports directX10.

Depending on how much you want to spend, most people would suggest an X1800XT as its a great card at a great price. It all depends on how much you want to spend now and if you are wanting to upgrade to a DirectX 10 card when they arrive.

Well I'm assuming the DirectX10 ones will be round the £300+ mark anyway.

Also assuming that Vista will continue to support the likes of the X1800 but these won't be able to run DX10.

Can't actually find any X1800, do you mean X1900XT?

They will most likely be priced quite high as soon as they are released.

Current DX9 cards will still work with Vista, it will just mean DX10 games will run in DX9 mode if they have one. Plus, I can only think of 1 (maybe 2?) games that have been announced to use DX10, and that is crysis which still has support for previous generations of DirectX cards.

I understand that FSX is going be DX10 as well.

So a X1900XT would be a good bet then and last a reasonable amount of time then

ok couldn't find that from my normal supplier.

Much difference then between X1800XT and X1900XT for the money?

Yes, an X1900XT would last longer has it has more pixel shaders than the X1800XT so it should be quite a bit faster in upcoming games. I would wait until you get a second opinion by someone here :)
