I just got in true fiber internet and my AC usb adapter (tplink, 600ac i think) can't seem to get good reception at my desktop pc. I know there is a good signal as sitting at the same place as adapter is my galaxy S21Ultra gets all of the 300mbps as my line is allowing (mobile data is off for this test).
The adapter i use currently barely reaches 180mbps. Its a tiny thing with no antennas, plugged into a USB3 port. No other devices in USB3 ports, bar keyboard. Connecting via ethernet cable is not possible.

Any recommendations on cheap and cheerful usb wifi 1200 AC adapters out there, with antennas preferably ?
Not interested in pci adapters.

What about m2 or if your mobo has the little slot like Asus did back then m2 to mpci?

I ask as this is the best you can get now: Intel AX210.

You would loose PCI-E lanes using any PCI-E slot bar the shorter one you stick a soundcard in but if you do not have a soundcard the PCI-E one come with antennas (fitted with the above Intel card).

I can hit 600Mb/s limited by the VM HUB4's WIFI 5 AC.

Nope, its the 2nd gen intel we're talking about here... MSI Z68-A board. No m2's. I have nvme drive in an adapter, but cant even boot from it... old is old.
Just need to find a USB solution to get at all of 300mbps fiber internet i have here...

I have no m2 but use an adapter to that little mini PCI-E slot, that way I do not loose any PCI-E lanes.

You can get a Modded bios to boot from NVME BTW.

No, cant mess with my production pc. Which means the least invasion the better, hence looking for painless USB upgrade to existing adapter...

So, went out and bought TP-Link T3U AC1300 adapter jus to see if any improvement, and oh boy does it suck.
Its a mini, same form factor i have now (tp-link N300).
However old N300 will do 200mbps on speed tests, while T3U AC1300 will barely reach 70mbps.
My phone at the exact same location gets whole 300mbps as its supposed to...
So, back to argos T3U goes.

Anyone with suggestions ?

The T3U also looks small in size and is classed as a mini adapter, and has no flip out antenna so probably offers no benefit over your current one. Bit of a strange choice picking that one from what you mentioned in the first post. Perhaps try the T9UH instead:

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/adapter/archer-t9uh/

It has a dock for the USB dongle so you can have more options on placement. You can also flip open the high gain antenna to give a bit more reception (I guess is the idea behind that). Might be worth a punt.

What surprised me is how much worse T3U is in comparison to old N300, form factor and manufacturer being identical. N300 tops out at ~200mbps, T3U barely hits ~70mbps.
