Hello there,

My first post on here and I'm a little unsure when this kind of a post goes so general hardware will do for now.

I'm going to be coming into a little money and being the geek I am I love playing with new toys so I've decided to upgrade-cascade and move my current X2 3800+,2gb pc4000 ram to fileserver and use that for a media PC or upgrade my webserver. Anyhow I'm looking at some Core 2 Duo stuff and I've narrowed it maybe down to the following stuff, I was just wondering what you people think of the stuff.

CPU: C2D E6600
RAM: 4GB of the OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500
Mobo: EVGA nForce 680i

I will also get an 8800GT most likely at a later date, nearer Crysis time :p.

Anyhow what do you lot think.. CPU will be cooled as part of my current watering cooling setup and I'm looking to get a pretty nice overclock out of this I heard/read around that 3.2Ghz+ is quite easy even on air so I'm hoping for an easy overclock...will having 4 1GB sticks effect timings/overclock much?

Thanks,

Rich :)

Yeh the Intel C2D's do overclock extremely good, i also have the E6600 and at 3.2GHz stable and im pretty sure i could go even further.

4GB of RAM isnt really needed but if you have the money then its certainly worthit, you have to run Vista though as XP only recognises upto 2GB of RAM.

Also if you havent already buy a really good decent monitor.

I can vouch for the CPU and the board as I'm the proud owner of both... The ram should be fine... I own the Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 which is great as well... I previously owned 2x1GB OCZ Platinum PC2-6400 which was excellent ram. You should easily get 3.2Ghz out of a E6600 possibly even more... mine reaches 3.4Ghz with ease... and possibly more if I invest in better cooling.

Well i have no problems with Vista with only 2GB of RAM, but if i had or was willing to spend money on another 2GB of RAM i would, as you seem to have plenty of money i would personally purchase 4GB of RAM although its not essentially needed

Ah OK,

I might give 2GB a shot and spend the cash on looking beautiful for now and maybe get another 2GB when I feel like it :).

So it all sound good? :)

Yeah, the 4gb doesn't make a big difference, its small and I would recommend getting faster 2gb of ram :)

If your planning to clock the RAM then theres THIS

Don't be fooled by the 667MHz, it clocks to over 1000. :)

I wouldnt spend that much on 2GB personally, you can get the cheaper ballistix which can match that overclocked with lower voltages.

Compared with the £60 cheaper ballistix which runs at 5-5-5-15 at the same speed as your CPU, its not worth it.

The Ballistix PC8500 will overclock as high as the OCZ im quite certain and it runs at lower voltage.

i second this. Although theirs nothing wrong with the RAM you've linked, go with what your fell comfortable with.

Hey people,

Just to recap / save extra thread

I will be ordering at the end of June - When I'm paid this is the stuff I'm getting:

EVGA nForce 680i
Crucial Ballistix 2GB PC2-5300C3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

Is this alright you think then? Want to get the ram to 1066, and the CPU to 3.2GHz.

Also I'm thinking of adding LG L226WTQ on top? What do you lot think to that monitor...any good on the ol' gaming front?

Thanks,

Rich
