Hey OCUK forums.

I have to do a self-assessment tax return. I've been... remiss about organisation ahead of the deadline.

As I'm out of the country it's a bit of a challenge to get authorised by the Government Gateway to do my self assessment.

Are there any good, well priced accounting firms I can get to do my return on my behalf? Who does everyone else use?

You might have a problem getting an agent authorised in time now to be able to access your tax return online through their portal, it's a bit late in the day!

So you don't already have government gateway login? Christ I remember it taking me a while to even get that setup!

You have less than 2 weeks to pay.

Good luck finding anybody to take that on!

I've still got 5 clients who haven't even given me their books yet, I've given up chasing.

You're in luck as HMRC aren't going to fine you if you miss the January deadline again this year, you have until the end of Feb which should be enough leeway to get it all sorted.

Heh, lucky. But that is a bit ridiculous, people have from April last year to get things sorted, no excuse really to miss the 31st Jan.

This is why I want to get rid of all my sole trader clients by April 24, when SA goes MTD - and submissions will have to be made quarterly! What a joke, I just don't need the headache of trying to get people to produce their accounts quarterly when they can't even do it once a year!

My own accountant does our VAT calculations, so they get all our accounts information such as sales invoices, purchase invoices and bank statements quarterly anyway and can calculte the corporation tax owed from that, and can see the payments I make to myself, so they get the majority of the self assessment information from that.

I'm not particularly complex though as I don't own houses I rent out or stuff like that.

Yea, I'll keep my Ltd companies and VAT registered sole traders, as that naturally promotes books being done on a monthly/quarterly basis anyway. I'm on about the micro-entity sole traders, no VAT just currently once a year self assessment submission. Trying to change them into doing their paperwork often enough to do it all quarterly.....:o....no thanks!
