I'm considering replacing the CPU in my system - currently an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (which runs at 65W, with the standard cooler on it). The fastest CPU that the motherboard will take is the 6000+ which runs at 125W (there is a 89W version, but that seems to be impossible to find).
Obviously the cooler from the current CPU would have no hope. So I'm looking for suggestions for a suitable cooler for the new chip if I go with this upgrade.
1. I won't be overclocking
2. I don't want to spend a vast amount, so I'm not thinking about fancy liquid cooling options!
3. It's an upgrade, so I don't want to remove the motherboard to fit the cooler.
4. I'd like the usual things in the trade off of size/noise etc, but realise you can't have everything, particularlarly when trying to keep the cost down.
Recommendations please?
